Default Swordfish bite heating up!

We have had a few good fishing trips over the past few weeks. It still has been slow as far as customers as always this time of year but we still manage to get by. For the inside report there are still Bonita and Kingfish around nailing the baits but what has got my attention is the bottom bite. Anchoring up in 50-60 feet of water has produced nice yellowtails and Mutton Snappers biting either on glass minnows or cut bait and plenty of chum. We had a great surprise yesterday as a nice school of 10-12 pound Dolphin attacked our spread. We made fast work of it and hooked into 3 of them before the rest of the school swam off. We were trolling offshore about 8 miles and couldn't find a bite, then we came onto the reef and caught our fish in 70 feet of green water.

Offshore night fishing has been just awsome. The weather has been calm for the most part with seas less than 2 feet most of the time.
We were out with Roger and crew from Texas last week and caught 4 Swordfish. We kept 2 and released the other 2. Our bites were mostly on the live Blue Runners and 1 on a Squid.
One of my favorite scenarios out there fishing for Swordfish is when I study the drift and figure where we need to start. Then I prep the bait and send her down, attach my float and within minutes a fish is on. This happened again to us on Wednesday night when we sent down a live bait and it came right back up towards us as a Swordfish had picked it up and raced for the surface. The fish measured out at 55 inches which isn't very big but it was Claudio's first Swordfish landing. I'm glad we put him on one because he came all the way from Italy.

The Swordfish are making a strong comeback as I'm hearing of more stories of big fish getting away. Last weekend we heard of one boat fighting a Sword for 11 1/2 hours before it broke them off. You just never know what's going to bite on the other end of your line. We have a Sword trip this Saturday and Sunday night so I hope to be reporting some bragging rights.

Lets get em,
