“Gold Coast Grand Slam” season has arrived. This slam consist of a sailfish, a dolphin and a tarpon. Yesterday my charter party of 3, and I headed out at noon to try to get a slam. At the end of 9 hours of fishing we had 7 sailfish, 4 dolphin, 6 bonito and 3 tarpon. 2 of my 3 anglers had caught slams!
2 of the same guys fished with me today. We started fishing at a little after 1 and by 9:30 we had 9 sailfish, 6 dolphin, a couple king mackerel, a skipjack tuna and 2 tarpon in the 110 to 120 pound class. 2 guys, 2 more Gold Coast Grand Slams. The sails and their cohorts are hitting in 90 to 120 feet of water on live herring suspended from kites or fished on flatlines. The tarpon are found around Government Cut and are eating live shrimp. Of course the sailfish and tarpon are released, but most of the eating fish are headed back north for the dinner tables this summer. We have some open dates on Bouncer’s Dusky 33 the first week of April. Call us at 305-945-5114 and we’ll go get in on the action. |
