Double D Charters

2/16/04

We had another good week of fishing in Miami. Last Sunday we started the week catching 13 out of 15 sailfish, which has been our best day yet this year. The rest of the week did not disappoint us. We had two day that we went 7 for 10 on sailfish, one day which we went 7 for 9, and one day that we caught 4 out of 6 sails. The fishing was better during the week. As the weekend approached, the wind died out on Friday, and by Saturday it turned to the south. Saturday was our slowest day. We caught several dolphin and went 0 for 2 on the sails. This cold front that reached us today should bring the sailfish action back in high gear. We have several sailfish trips this week, and I am looking forward to some decent sailfishing.

Besides daytime sailfishing, we also had 2 evening swordfish trips and an evening tarpon trip. Both the sword trips and the tarpon trips did not disappoint us either. For the swordfish trips, our first trip we caught 2 out of 2 swords that we hooked. The largest was 185 pounds. The fork length was 71 inches and the overall length was just under 10 feet. The second fish was 110 pounds with a fork length of 60 inches. Both fish fought well with the first fish taking close to an hour to land. Our second sword trip we went 2 for 2 as well. What was neat about that trip is that we actually hooked a fish as the sun was just setting. The second fish we caught was a few hours later, but as this sword rocketed towards the boat, another free swimmer was swimming alongside. We tried to get a bait to the second fish, but he was swimming way to fast. The second fish we caught also decided to do a bunch of jumps next to the boat. It was quite the sight to see a swordfish jumping with the electralume light flying in the air, so close to the boat. We have a few more sword trips this week, so as long as the weatherman cooperates, we should be in good shape.

We also had a tarpon trip this week and we caught 2 tarpon out 4 that we hooked. We fished the beaches along Haulover and used live shrimp as bait.

So if it is sailfish, swordfish, tarpon or any of the other species we have in South Florida, that you want to catch, give me a call and lets set it up.
