Default Cary's Fort Reef Report

Today i had the pleasure of fishing with my best customer here in Miami. Adam and I left the dock at 8am and hit Bug light by 8:20am. Bait was there but very tough. The pilchards were huge, and there were some nice herring in there as well. After aboutand hour and a half we managed about 8 dozen. There was just a slight breeze blowing from the ESE so we decided to run down to Triumph Reef to see what was biting. We made 1 drift from 240 in to 65ft with 1 kingfish and other cut-off. There was barely any current so we decided to make a move. I herd the past few days that there was a decent bite off of Cary's Fort.

We made the 15 mile run only to find little current and some greenish-blue water. We set up in 200ft and made a series of 5 drifts. The first drift resulted 3 cut-offs and 1 missed bottom fish. The next 2 drifts didnt show us any fish. The 4th drift resultedin 1 dolphin about 7lbs, 3 kingfish, and 1 cut-off. The 5th drift resulted in a few more cut-offs and a nice red grouper about 11lbs. We decided to make the run back to the north near Fowey. We arrived at Fowey to find that some real nice current and blue water had moved in. There were a few boats in the area but they havnt had any bites in a while. We set up out in 240ft. I threw out 3 flat lines, 1 mid-water line and 1 bottom rod. When we hit 150 ft of water we hook a double headder sailfish. Mine make 4 jumps and spitts the hook, but Adams is hooked up solid. He fights the 8ft long sailfish for about 15 minutes and gets her boatside, i quickly unhook and send her on her way. We regroup and decide to make another drift before we call it a day.
We run out to 200ft and send the baits back out. We are geiing ready to call it a day when the mid depth bait starts to sing. Adam grabbs the rod gets tight and 2 minutes later we see mr sailfish jumping off the bow. We make chase and 10 minutes later we release our second fish. We decide to call it a day and make our way home.

We ended the day going 2/3 on sails, 1 red grouper, few kings, and some spanish mackreal. All in all another great day aboard the "Night Prowler"! We still have some dates left in March but they are booking quickly, and remember everyone Bahamas season is coming up soon. The wahoo and tuna bite has been on fire over there. Friends of mine have been coming back with 6-8 wahoo and a few yellowfins mixed in from a 2 day trip. Give me a call and lets go get em!

Tightlines,

Capt. Joe
