Miami Sailfish Report on the Night Prowler

Sailfishing has just been HOT this year thats all i can say. Record breaking days by some of the top Captains, and most people seeing at least 5 fish a day! On saturday i had the pleasure of fishing the Rod and Reel Club Challenge from Miami Beach. We left the dock at 7am and hit stiltsville at 7:10. We were met with some nice 6ft swells on the way out to get set up. We stopped off at Bug Light to see if we could snag some more bait, but it was like a barren sea. We ran out to 240 ft where we found some nice current and blue water. We put the kites out and waited for the go ahead fromthe committee boat to start fishing. At 8am we started sending the baits out. After about an hour or so we had a sail up on teh short kite bait, but he wasnt interested in the live google eye he just kept swimming by. We set up our second drift and got into some dolphin.Caught a few and released a few. By noon we had not seen another sail so we decided to run south for our last and final drift. We get set up and catch a few more dolphin, but couldnt get the 30lber to eat infront of the boat. At 2:45pm 15 minutes before lines out we hook up, and release the only sail of the day. We finished the day in 7th place over all and 3rd place in the club division.

Tuesday the 24th i had the pleasure of fishing with Adam Yunis and a good friend of his george. We caught plenty of bait in the cut then proceeded offshore to catch some sails. I get 4 flatlines out and as i am getting the kite up in the light 5mph wind one of the flat lines gets nailed. We quickly get tight on our first sail of the day, and as he is greyhounding accross the surface we hook 2 more fish! We are now on a triple header. I break 1 fish off and we were able to release the other 2 fish. Not a bad start! We put the baits back out and finish out the drift. # drifts later we hook a double header of sails. We catch one out of the 2. Its now 11pm and we are 3/4 on sails. We set up another drift and catch a few schoolie dolphin. We set up our final drift of the day at 2pm and hook another triple header of sails, but this time we only landed 1. We ended the day at 3pm 5-9 on sails, a few dolphin and a bonita. We had great action all day. We are looking forward to fishing the Mayor's Cup this weekend. hopefully the bite stays red hot! i have some days still left in Feb so if you want to get in on this awesome sailfish action give me a shout!
