What do you want to catch? Ft. Lauderdale report

Chances are right now you can catch the fish you have been wanting to. The cold fronts are pushing through as I write and it will be a cold one at that. The Sailfish are going to be snapping and you might see some Dolphin slide by also. The Kingfish are here too. We should see some smokers coming through in the 50 pound range during the next few months. If the current is moving at a good clip you will be able to get numerous bites and if a cold front is here with the currrent expect a stellar day of fishing.

The Sharks are showing up in the deep. We are finding some big Hamerheads crashing the kite lines. If you put a nice big bait on the bottom and out deep you have a chance at a Mako Shark and even Threshers, both great eating fish. If your intention is to go Shark hunting please let me know so I can break out the big gear.

Last weekend was phenomenal Swordfishing. At least 6 boats caught fish in the 300 pound or over range. My boat missed that round as we had some engine trouble and we are now repowering. We will be back out on the water January 10th. This past week Mike Powers from Atlanta GA called me up to do some Swordfishing Wednesday night. I called up Joe McGivern and we decided to go on his boat out of Miami and fish for them. We caught 2 dozen Blue Runners in short work and made our way to the grounds. First bait out gets nailed and we were tight, then the hook shakes loose. #2 fish takes a deep bait and we saw the light right close to the boat. I must of cranked over 300 feet of line within 30 seconds time. My shoulder was numb for a few minutes. We get tight but only for a minute. Another pulled hook. #3 fish is tapping the tip rod with a nice big Runner. He takes his time eating but he was so sneaky about it. He was coming up to the surface as I though he was eating and all of a sudden he's in the light going bolistic all lit up. Next thing you know the fish explodes out of the water in full, jumps on top of the gunnel and hits the rod that was positioned near the transom to break his fall. He flipped his way off the boat and back in the water, the rod doubles over so hard and pops back. The line had caught on something when he hit the rod and we lost all the leader and electralume. The fish stuck around the boat for over 5 minutes as we watched the electralume on the surface racing back and forth and then disapear. Our 4th fish took a shallow bait and was managed to the boat tail wrapped. As I grabbed the fish I saw the hook was not in him just lassoed around the tail which made for a textbook release. The big Mako's are also showing up out in the Sword grounds. last week I heard of 3 catches with one going over 700 pounds. You just never know whats going to bite your lines.
