Default Pompano Saltwater Shootout! Fishing Report

Pompano Saltwater Shootout!

On Saturday July 16 I had the pleasure of fishing the Pompano Beach Saltwater Shootout with my friends from Team SeaVee. For those of you who are unfamiliar with this tournament it is a meat tournament. What that means is that Blackfin Tuna, Wahoo, Kingfish, Dolphin and Cobia are eligible on a point per pound system, the guy with the most pounds wins.

We began our day on a 52 mile run up to Jupiter, Florida. After setting up our kites and baits the action began. We were in the middle of a Kingfish and Bonita

(Little Tunny) bite the likes of which I have never seen. After reeling in our 10th Bonita Arial Pared, the owner of SeaVee boats got a devastating strike as he was letting out the kite bait. Shortly there after a beautiful 25 pound kingfish came aboard. Not a bad way to start the morning. Not long after that the Bonita found us again and to say that we caught 20 Bonita would not be an understatement. Next up was Eric Castillo, he also got a nice hit from a king on the kite bait and again we put another large kingfish in the boat. Several minutes later Eric gets another hit on the kite bait and again it’s another nice king. But disaster would strike and through no fault of the angler the fish became unglued. This would prove to be a costly turn of events costing us a possible second place.

Later on we added several smaller kings, 2 sailfish (released) and a dolphin to the mix of fish that we had. Spirits were high as we had to make the return 52 mile trip to the weigh station before it closed. We were feeling good with the amount of fish we were going to bring to the scales. After seeing some of the top fisherman in the Southeast weigh in it was our turn. After the weigh station closed and all the points were totaled we ended up in fifth spot out of 90 boats. This has been our best finish until now and we are very proud of our achievement. The next day I received a call asking me fish the rest of the year on the Team SeaVee. So stay tuned for future tournaments results as I will chronicle the upcoming tournaments and our results

Best of Luck
