Default Coming in August: Book on the History of the IGFA

The international Game Fish Association announces the imminent release of its long-awaited history book, Big Game Fishing Headquarters: A History of the IGFA

Full Scale Release in August

DANIA BEACH, Fla
.… After years of anticipation, the IGFA has announced that it will release a special first edition of its history book Big Game Fishing Headquarters: A History of the IGFA later this summer.

Written by award-winning copywriter and IGFA Representative Mike Rivkin, the work is a comprehensive look at the development of big game fishing and the IGFA’s pivotal role in same. The book will focus on the IGFA’s event-filled 66-year history and include more than 200 heretofore unpublished photographs and documents from the IGFA’s enormous archives.

“Indeed, this is the first time that the IGFA has ever given a writer access to the vast store of its internal records,” commented IGFA President Rob Kramer. “Every long-time member and friend of the IGFA will be fascinated by the pioneering photographs and unedited correspondence from the organization’s earliest days.” Such compelling personalities as IGFA founder Michael Lerner and long-time Vice President Ernest Hemingway are reviewed, and early angling hotspots such as Nova Scotia, Bimini, and Cabo Blanco, Peru are explored in rich detail.

Other chapters look at the history of the IGFA’s rules of angling, how world records are set and lost, and the organization’s all-new Museum and Hall of Fame in Dania Beach, Florida.

The book’s author is 49-year-old Mike Rivkin, a successful catalogue publisher widely known for his celebrated copywriting skills. Rivkin is also a veteran offshore angler, member of Catalina Island’s venerable Tuna Club, and an IGFA Representative; in short, a perfect choice to author this first-of-its-kind book. To maximize interest and ensure a rapid sell-through, the IGFA has limited its first edition printing to only 5,000 copies and is already accepting reservations for the first 900 (signed and numbered) volumes. An excerpt of the book appears in the 2005 edition of the IGFA’s World Record Game Fishes and a full-scale release is scheduled for August.

For more details or to reserve your own numbered copy, visit the IGFA’s website at www.igfa.org or e-mail ccarey@igfa.org or call IGFA merchandise coordinator Crystal Carey at 954-924-4310.
