Default Electronics - While we are on the subject

Have had my Lowrance acting up lately. Have a dual Freq and get good sonar readings at 200K in shallow, but when I go to 50 for greater depth, I get nothing even in shallow water where the 200 works. Would this be an issue with the transducer or the unit itself. Not sure how frequency works through the unit versus transducer? Can anybody enlighten me?? THANKS DUKE

Hey Duke , I have a simple Ray Marine dual beam 50/200 transom mount. It will read bottom at 1300 if im drifting . It is set on automatic but sometimes i have to adjust the sensitivity manually in that deep a water Even though its on auto ,try givin it a hand by movin the sensitivity to midpoint so it'll "see" the bottom and adjust itself from there. I run the machine all on auto with speed at maximum but i do have to give it a boost findin bottom in Deep water Or if thermals send it crazy . Check and see if your sensitivity is pegged on high. If so leave it on auto and move it to mid range and see. This is SOP on my machine, Maybe it'll help u. If it's on the trailer turn it on , walk back and put your hand on the transducer and listen. You should feel thump thump if it's sendin out the signal. Hope this helps. Randy

Good stuff, will definitely try. I do have the dual freq transducer and it use to work much better. I can "hear" the transducer but like I said it doesn't seem like I am getting 50k activity...HD

Default Is your transducer clean?

I'm not sure how critical this is for the deep sending units but I have always been careful not to get bottom paint on the transducer (for my shallower version). Either remove it or tape it off with masking tape. In additon, I will inspect it from time to time to ensure no marine growth has encrusted to the exposed surface. (For those boats that stay wet 24/7/365.)
