I had the pleasure of working the cockpit aboard the charterboat "Let's Do It" , sailing from New Port Cove over the weekend.
We left Palm Beach Inlet & found a "fishy" weedline in 200ft & set out the kite & gogs. Far kite immediately gets a nailed and the dolphin spits the bait. Reset, and missed another fish.
Finally we get tight on a fish, only to discover it was a shark.
Now its 10:00 with an empty cooler, time to switch game-plan to slow-trolling gogs.
Another hour of bumping goes by without a fish
TEASERsteve (my dad) rigs up another bait on a circle hook and slips it into the spread. Twenty minutes go by and he announces that a fish has picked up the bait. He engages the Torium, rod bends, and we see the fish jump.
The rod is passed to our angler (Kieth) that did a great job of fighting the fish while his brother Randy cleared lines & assisted in the cockpit. This fish gave a great fight with lots of jumps, dives, and head-shaking. As the fish got comfortable tailing on the surface, TEASERsteve began to backdown on the fish and gave me the perfect set-up for the gaff shot and angry dorado in the boat!
