Default Frankendolphin

Boys,
I just got a phone call from a fishin bud of mine...sais he was out of Ft. Pierce this weekend about 120' deep and due East of the inlet when they landed "Frankendolphin".
He reported it at 72 lbs 10 oz, which tells me they actually wieghed it...no estimating. It taped out at 69" long and near 38" in girth...damn thing could wear my pants !!
The story goes that it ate both flat lines which were attached to a pair of 30 TLD's, unfortunately for the phin. Double winched it to the boat in 10 minutes.
Still waiting on the photos which should be forthcoming if my bud "Dolphin Dave" can figure out how to send them to me.

Dave doesn't lie, so keep your eyes open for the story to break on some other websites.

Congratulations to Dolphin Dave and captain Paul out of Vero Beach.

Wow what a fish!!! Congrads and drinks are in order!!

Using the formula 69 x 38 x 38/800 = 125 lbs

So much for the formula!!!

I believe the formula was originally designed for whale sharks. Naturally, when you change the shape of the fish, the formula must change accordingly.

Oh, and I can't wait to see the pics. I've been dying to go fishing and knowing these dolphin are swimming by is killing me.

Actually there was a story about the formula in an article in Marlin magazine along with the measurements associated with the mininum lengths for a 300, 400, 500 and 600 lb fish. According to the story, the formula was devised by a smart fisherman so that he could catch and release tarpon and get a guess as to their weight. And the story also allows for the errors in the formula and says that for marlin you should divide by 750 instead of 800 and then add ten percent. My initial post was just to point out how inaccurate that formula can be at a times.
