Default 4/19 Bigger Bull Dolphin in the Small Boat

I picked up this pair of dolphin along with two smaller ones on Saturday fishing solo off of Key Biscayne in 200’ of water. After live baiting early and getting 2 small dolphin, 2 bonito and some kingfish cutoffs, I was almost out of live bait(had 2 goggle eyes left) I decided to do some trolling. The cow was hooked while trolling a bonito strip on my special rig. The bull followed her to the boat. I pitched out a goggle eye but he left when the cow took off on another run he left. As I worked her back to the boat he came up, he grabbed the gog and took off running. I ran back to that rod, engaged the drag and the circle hook pulled. I went back to fighting the cow. I decided to throw out my last gog in hopes that he would find his way back to her and to the boat. Five minutes later I had the cow just out of gaff range when I hear the rod with the gog on it start to click. I turn around only to see the goggle eye tail walking on the surface like a sailfish trying to get away from the bull. I put the rod with the cow on it back into the rod holder and went to deal with the bull. After watching him try to catch the gog(felt like 10 minutes) he finally got it, I gave him the proper drop back for a circle hook, engaged the drag and this time it stuck. I then had to put that rod down to finish with the cow. I managed to get her into the boat and then had to chase him down with the boat while standing on her to prevent her from jumping out. Once I got near him I saw he had another large cow with him but was not interested in another big dolphin since already having caught two smaller ones earlier. I finally got him into gaff range stuck him in the head and over the side he came. I really wanted to get a picture of these fish out on the water so I called Bouncer Smith, who was only about 200yds away from me, on the radio to see if I could pull up on his downwind side and take some pictures. He said to come on over, so I passed him my camera, he took some pictures, and home I went.

The bull weighed in at 52.3 lbs, the cow weighed in at 28.6lbs. The smaller pair I had early that morning weighed in at 8 & 11 lbs.

After I realized I had a 100lbs of Dolphin for the day I decided to look and see how much fuel I burned for the day. 2 Gallons. And that is the reason I love my boat.
