Default new to this

i am new to this, had my 621 about a month now and go out every sunday for a couple of hours. Yesterday found the groupers and left them. loving this and having fun. Next quest is to locate some of those big queenies you guys are catching , any pointers would be great. See pics of yesterday attached

You should have entered the Tournament. That Pomfret (ugly black one) would have won you some $$$. You have a PM ( top right corner of page).
Good job, I know that 621 was groaning from those grouper!!

burl-fish is my lame attempt to phonetically spell the bahamian for boiled-fish that lovely staple of the Bahamian diet. I have a killer recipe if you'd like it.

Al’s BOILED FISH

In a large cooking pot put a gallon or more of water to the boil, add in:

Slab o’ Butter
Dill weed
Black pepper, coarse ground and whole corns
Bird or goat peppers (or any other kind you like)
Rosemary
Add or delete any other spice as you like
Lime juice

Once boiling add:

Sweet potato (cubed like you would put in a stew)
Potato
Celery
Onion, I quarter mine and flake it in. (Don’t dice it small)
Chives, scallions etc
Any other veggie you like

When the potato is more than half cooked add in the fish, diced into about 1” cubes. Don’t add the fish too early or it will not remain in a cubed form, it will disintegrate. The fish should be in there only long enough to turn it white all through, no more is necessary. I also like to delay deployment of the onion so it is a little al dente.

Play around with the ingredients though I would not skip the butter, lime or dill for anything. Success is all in the timing, once you do it the first time you’ll see where you like best to add in each ingridament. Best served with Bahamian Johnny cake dripping in butter but don’t ask me how to make that!! Enjoy!

Ingredients:
4 cups flour
½ cup sugar
½ tsp salt
4 rounded tsp baking powder
1 heaping cooking spoon shortening
3 tblsp butter/margarine
2 eggs
2¼ cups milk

1 large bowl
1 13” x 9” x 2” baking pan (either metal or Pyrex is fine)

Instructions:
Add flour, sugar, salt and shortening to large bowl
Blend with pastry blender until mix has consistency of coarse meal
Create a ‘well’ in the center.
Add eggs and milk to the well
Stir together with cooking spoon until consistency is like soft dough

Turn into greased baking pan
Dot the top with butter/margarine
Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes or until golden brown

Serve warm with butter

Cook Time: 45 min Prep Time: 20 min

another option:

2 cups of flour
2 tsp baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 Tblsp shortening
1 Tblsp sugar

Mix flour, baking powder, salt, shortening and sugar with enough water to knead.

Knead until smooth.

Roll out, on a lightly floured board, covered with a cloth and let lighten.

Then, bake at 350 degrees until brown on both sides (in a lightly greased frying pan) or for authenticity, on top the stove at very low heat. Serve warm with lots of butter.

Serves 6.

Who's Flossie-Mae? Google didn't seem to have the answer for that one.
