Thumbs up Offshore Weather Sucks...Again

Plan A was to trailer up to Sebastian on Saturday, stay overnight at Capt Hirams, head straight out 20nm for deepdropping gags.

Plan B was to trailer down to Jupiter on Sunday morning, head out 5nm to tilefish depths and kill some fish.

The weather looks bad for Sebastian so Plan B is in effect. Poolman is going with me and we plan on using some of the new hand grenades I imported from Norinco (Communist China's arms export company).

Yeah, I agree, clams are nasty bait. LOL

After fishing with Rich in 8-10 footers, from a dead boat, wind howling out of the northwest at 20-25kts, 20-25nm offshore AND we still limited out on Tiles, I am convinced we can ease out of Jupiter and get some tilefish with less hassle than it took me two weeks ago when I had almost the same conditions.

You guys should see the new, improved Catch-All Tilefish rig. It's only three hoks but they are all Mustad #3996 OD 14/0 closed-throat Circles on a three-hundred pound mono chicken rig. I had some serious fish on the line two weeks ago and three of the four got off because I was using 5/0 Owner Super Mutu Circle Hooks. Great hooks but the wrong size and I can't get bigger ones in that style from my source.

When I say serious Tilefish, the broomstick rod was bent over, rodtip was in the water the whole time they were on and the bigass Electramate 940XP was straining hard. That motorpack is sorta like a F-350 diesel pickup in four-wheel drive low.

I'm hoping I have an even bigger Tiley to weigh in for the tournament tomorrow. But with my luck, Rich or FullaBull Bill (while guests on my boat) will catch one bigger than me and be in the lead for 1st Place. DAMMIT!

Hey Mark, Got out today ,, still nasty ... it was blowing from the north ... with whitecaps ...plus a strong current made it a lot of work to stay near the bottom .. had one wave hit me side ways and got water in the boat .. and I also got soaked ... took a while to find the Tiles ... I tried some of the numbers I got months ago where I got my 16lber .. ... and this time the fish gods let us have two tiles ...one 9.5 lbs & 5lbs... plus one cusk eel ! My rod tip was in the water when the 9.5 tile hit ... with the stong current made it feel like a monster , but I`ll take it how it comes .. gave a great fight .. maybe I get the biggin tommorrow!! was just to rough to stay out .. ... I still like my owner 5/0 Circle wide gap hooks !!!... manually you can fight the fish and take your time ... when I know its big I just ease off the drag .. haven`t lost a big one yet ... still got two months ... there`s a deep hole I am wanting to try ... I am sure it is holding a large tile in it .. just need a calm day ...!!!

Default I'm Jonesing Real Bad...

It's been 4 weeks since I last went fishng. To say that I have been suffering thru withdrawal is an understatement.

Come Hell or high water, crew or no crew, I am goin' fishin' on Saturday. Weather looks like it might cooperate: 5-10 kts, N-NE, 2 feet or kless. But then the Saturday afternoon butt-whupppin' kicks in so we have to limit out before noon.

Offshore Weather Sucks - Part IV

It not lookin' good offshore tomorrow, so me fish inside ICW. I reckon I'll stop back by and kill me some mangrove snappers and maybe a ledge-lurking gag grouper.

Bit rough out there today, especially after noon. Got to be a very sloppy 4-6. Did end up with some nice Rosefish so well worth the trip.

If you want to haul a big grouper off of a big wreck, you'd better up the size of your tackle, Willi. I've read about you light-tackling for the prarie dogs. Don't even think of doing that on structure for grouper.

I Know ... but I am geared up with a new rod ... just didnt have the right bait and time to try ... just got the gps #`s and mark a lot of fish at different levels ... I`m sure there`s some monster aj`s on it also ..just waiting for a nice day with calm sea`s ...one thing it`s a big wreck ... it rises 40 ft off the bottom and about 200ft long ... not sure if it is on it`s side though !!
