I was just kind of wanting to be able to compete somehow, f-n-d, you guys get groupers over there so why not a species we all have a shot at?
This is the new world, geography is history now, what does it matter where you are in the world if we talk about the same species? I noticed with the sword tournament I am also excluded...not that I have found them over here yet....but still, supposing we do one day? BTW as Bahamian I can keep more than a 20# grouper even with the proposed new regs, no chance I will ever 'release' a big Misty grouper.

I'm all for a "one species" tourney, but have a question tor the other fellers.
What waters are we talking about? South FL .... Carolinas ... Virginia ... etc. And if Island Shark wants to spend the money for gas, bait etc. to come over and enjoy a "One Fish Limit". courtesy of our latest screw job aka Amendment 13C ... by all means ... c'mon over!. It will provide a kind of dressed rehersal for what the proposed Island regs will do for .... no .... to us. |

this all seems so un-American - excluding others from competition 'cuz they might beat us...I would love to enter the swordfish tournament you have running, even tho I havent found them here yet and if I do they likely wont be even close to big enough to win. Thats what the best part of competition is - winning against overwhelming odds.
Just ask your hockey team way back that beat the russians !

How's about largest grouper & largest tile. Two prizes (one for grouper and one for tile). Tape measure and news paper for verification.
![]() Mike - You going to do some type of entry post (Give us an idea of who wants to play)? Florida & Caribbean or World Wide? Last edited by fish-n-dude; 12-23-2006 at 08:28 AM.. |

why not do your tiles in Florida only and world wide for grouper?
any deep water grouper species will do - Misty, warsaw and snowy

Between Ken and myself we can get some nice prizes donated. To keep everything fair and fun for everyone so that no one will feel excluded, howzabout three dvisions - tilefish, US grouper and foreign-country grouper? And have a manual and an electric award in each fish group. Each angler enters, it's not a per boat entry.
Also, what is the entry fee? The cost of UPS-shipping the booty to the respective winners won't be cheap. If each guy pays an entry fee of $10 that should do it. Any extra dough gets donated to a fishing related charity or fishing-rights lobbying group like the RFA (and NOT the damned CCA). Entry forms and weigh-in forms would be available on a link in PDF format for easy printing. Forms get mailed/emailed to the tourney director. Mike Grander, since this is your tournament, all the parameters of the tourney will be set by you. But I hope our ideas here will help you narrow down the issues to a format that will satisfy most everybody. Catch-All

Tourny sounds like a great idea but yes, you have to do it for seperate species. Obviously you can catch bigger fish in the Bahamas and some of us cant get down there. Also have to have manual and electirc catagories also. Some dont have electric gear. Im sure more details will come as you hash out all the info. But until then, im in and gl all.

I agree with Mike & Island shark. Keep it simple. Largest Tile fish, largest Grouper (any species). Manual or Electric does not matter (far too difficult to monitor that). Two fish = two prizes.
I also agree with Catch. There shold be some sort of contribution / entry fee to cover any expenses. Mike - Lets have a gathering / captains meeting at some convenient location to iron out the details. Those of you outside the US will have to post your suggestions. Or maybe we could have the meting conveninetly located at Bottle Bay

Much as I'd like to see shark and the bahama boys play, we can't escape the fact that most tourneys have boundrys to level the playing field
. I concede that the manual vs. electric division will be too hard to regulate. I am ready to compete w/ the electrics, my crankin arm is strong! Definately need to keep it as simple as possible. Thats my .02 DF2

I want to check out a wreck in 800ft of water ... I guess you and me will be in the manual division

DF2 - Boundrys in tournaments are usually there for 2 reasons, one is so big/fast boats have less of an advantage over smaller slower ones who would not perhaps fish an event if they new it was unwinnable against the big boys, the other is when a small area may be restricted so you do not have a high concentration of boats all on top of each other, like around a FAD.
Both good reasons, but neither applies here. You have guys in Venice LA etc who have good shots at huge warsaws, the Keys have big snowys etc so why look to restrict to FL only? There was a pic in the gallery a while back of a 55# snown caught off cape canaveral I think. I agree that Bahamian yellow-eyes are bigger and Belize is likely the only one to compete with us but I disagree that you or someone in LA can not compete in the grouper division against me. You have your tilefish division, fair enuf (even though I dont get a yellow-eye division to match) but the groupers are fair game all over. BTW, when I do find el swordy over here I'm going to start b!tchin about entering the sword tournament on SFC too. As should Jerry down in Jamaica. All the best for 2007

I've decided that this first tournament for ease of regulation and setup, we will allow ALL SFC anglers from around the world.
All SFC Deep Dropping Addicts are welcome! No one will be excluded. I'm still working on the prizes, but this tournament will be free to enter, you just have to be a SFC member with atleast 10 posts. I like the idea of having a tilefish winner and a grouper winner (deepwater grouper only). So for this tournament there will be 2 places. Tournament will run most likely 3 months long. Proof of catch will have to be a photo of the fish taped out along with that days newspaper. I would like to see users register in the official thread that I will start on Jan 1. This way we can see who is playing as others had mentioned. Any other ideas for this one, let me know. Mike

Thank you.
Deep dropping is certainly addictive but it takes a caertain kind of nutter to keep going deeper and deeper , especially manually. We only get one deep groper here and thay don't get real big. Are our Bass Groper - your Wreckfish - eligible in the groper section. Also - not necessarily for prizes but more for interest - a section for most number of different species. Be interesting to see what sort of weird ooglies get dredged up around the world, and indeed how widespread some of them are. |
