Default Proposed MPA for the southern tip of Florida

These are the coordinates for the proposed MPA south of Marathon,Florida as taken from the SAFMC website discussing Amendment 14. If you fish that area, you may want to go there and read up on it.

http://www.safmc.net/MPAInformationP...9/Default.aspx

East Hump/1 Un-named Hump MPA
2 Alternative 1 (Preferred). Establish a Type 2 MPA protecting the East Hump in the
3 area bounded by the following coordinates: The northwest corner at
4 24°36.5'N, 80°45.5'W; the northeast corner at 24°32'N, 80°36'W; the
5 southwest corner at 24°32.5'N, 80°48'W; and the southeast corner at
6 24°27.5'N, 80°38.5'W (Figure 2).

They just keep chipping away at us until eventually there won't be anything left!

How big an area is it? Are they trying to protect a specific species spawning area? Not familiar w/ the area, but I thought I read that it
is where the sow Muttons do thier thing. Anyone Bueller? Bueller?

There is a Map of all the proposed MPA's for Florida at SAFMC's website.
Also maps of Carolinas.
There are several huge MPA's proposed off Jax. Check it out at:

Dammit man. What are they gonna do next, close the whole ocean .
Places like Pennekamp, make sense to me. But these MPA's are getting
out of control. Slippery slope. Started a couple years back, in the Tortugas. I thought then, its not a big deal there are lots of other areas to fish. Now they want to put them everywhere  . Its time to stand up
and fight these Morons.

Hey DF2,, was out today ..kinda rough for deepdropping ... they want to put a MPA right off haulover north to hallendale ... but so far nothing happened ... your fighting with fed`s ... they don`t give a sh@t about us or the commercials ...if they had their way ...one fish for everyone !!!Also I found this out today from the bait guy that was at the meeting they had here in Miami Downtown about the snowie grouper and golden tile fish regs ...The SAFMC had already voted on the rec ..reg before the public hearings ...how you like that one ... Her`s another good one ... watch out for the sword fish ... they want to change the quota ... give it to the north section .. so the long-liners can have their way with them ... and probably stop us rec guy`s from catching them off our shores ...reason ... this is their words ... because not many people are reporting their catches .. like I say don`t trust SAFMC ..NNOA...

There are 3 closed areas in the northern Gulf in the Fl Panhandle. They were put there to protect the prime grouper spawning habitat. They've been closed for a handfull of years now, and really are a good thing. Madison's, Swanson's, and (can't remember the third one) are large areas, and do a lot of good. They keep the commercial boys out, which is who would rape those areas.

The one off Stewart looks pretty small. Surely that's not the only place worth fishing out there.
