Default Key West Deep dropping 11/9/06

The wind finally died down and the current finally stopped running 3 mph to the west. Dropped twice on a rubble pile in 365 and got 1 8 pound Snowy and 2 16" vermillion Snapper. Moved to another spot in 355 and hit another Snowy of 9 pounds on the second drop. That is it.... it was all over in 4 drops due to the BS regulations since I don't want to kill fish I cannot keep. The members of the committee that ran these regs through in no time flat are ignorant of the impact of the regs.

The proper thing to do would be to close the taking completely from Jan 1 to April 30 every year and then have an open season with the 5 pp/per day limit. Even a 2 or 3 pp/per day would do it.

Nice catching.

I think I'm going to fill my boat up with every kid in the neighborhood. That way we can catch more fish and NOT even have to buy a fishing liscense.

Fish shallower and you won't catch snowies. I've only encountered one ever in <200'

By their own admission, SAFMC disregarded public input opposing a one fish limit for Tiles and Snowys. They opted for the one fish limit as a means to discourage rec fishermen from even fishing in waters where those species occur.

Love fishing w/ different people! Always learn something as well as get to sample different areas. You let me know when, I'll be there and pitch in with anything from scrubbin, to buying fuel. Look forward to seeing you again soon.
Take care,
Butch

MiamiAngler - hey, Willi, the regs don't say anything against high-grading the, aka culling.

Next time I take my boat out I'm going to high-grade all day long. We're not the problem. It's the commercials going out with overly-efficient gear that makes the fishery unsustainable. I'd like to see the commercial deepwater fishery go back to the kind of sustainable fishing that in the old days provided employent to lots of people at good pay. So I have no problem with their doing rod-n-reel fishing with manuals or electrics.

I do have a problem with their hydraulic gear, their habitat-destroying longline bottomfishing gear, etc.

Hi Catch,

I understand what you mean , but if we as rec guy`s start culling all day long , then we would not be any better then the cry baby comercial guy`s from north and south Carolina the made the ignorante idiots from the SAFMC cave in to their demands ... they are nothing but a bunch of drunks and drug addicts anyway ... you would think that the member`s of SAFMC would be educated .. have collage degree`s would know better .. that the problem is the commerials not the rec`s deplating our oceans .. as stated by my 15year daugther .. who to me has more sense then the SAFMC . they are no freind` s to the Rec .. fisherman ... and I hope by what they have done is woken up all of the rec Fisherman and who reads this is that if we dont all band together .. then by 2048 there would be a big problem with all food fish ..probably extinct! As a Japaniese commander said when they bombed Pearl Harbor ... we have woken a sleeping giant !... I urge all rec fisherman to watch all of the commercals out there ... if they do anything Illegal report them ... if you know some one who is selling sword fish illegaly report them ... I sure will .. and I will be watching ... that`s my promise ... remember .. it would be nice to always catch trophy fish ... but since we are fishing deep waters .. releasing them is not an opition.... not like catching seatrout all day... it`s not the fishes fault ... it`s the bastrads from SAFMC... all said ... Miamiangler

_P>S side note .. why is there never a meeting down here from the SAFMC.. are they that scared of us down here in Florida .. well they should be ..I`d love to give them my ear full ... along with hundreds of other`s that are pissed off ____________

drop where few fisherman have gone before

I have drafted yet another letter to send to your congressman/senator/ that pretty well shows that the SAFMC totally disregarded public input in their hearings for Amendmendment 13C. It also shows that they pretty much ignored part of the Magnuson-Stevens Act. If anyone wants a copy of what I'll be sending out ... pm me with your email address and I'll send it to you. I'm more than a bit pi$$ed
