I got one the other day. Filled with 80 braid. The reels works great and is very fast. Stops when you want it to, but you have to figure out all the other options (how to work it) but works great. I have not deep dropped with it yet, only been using it for a kite reel right now.

I looked a couple of different sizes of those last week at a local tackle store. They do look nice, but I'll reserve judgement until some of the field reports come in from the "tackle abusers".

Agreed for that price should hold more line ... well it makes a expensive nice kite reel...or for real shallow ..deepdropping ... hey guys I still say it can be done with 50lbs braide ... manually ... I`ll let you know when I get out to the humps ...I can hit bottom at 900ft with 32 OZs  last week in 3-4 seas + ground swells and wind blowing at 15 miles I hit bottom at 700 ft ... just didnt catch any thing ... bait kept jumping off the bottom  did n`t give the fish enough time to eat the bait ... _______ drop where few fisherman have gone before  |

To me it matters what size line, personally 80 would be bare minimum.
But as far as line it bepends on everything. Even if he put 200 on it a reel like that, won't hold enough drag. Also if he's going to make a setup for that, that looked reasonable the rod would be too light, for 100 Lb. If it were me I would stay away from the new stuff, Let the other people tell the factory what went wrong not you. My .02 Kyle

Sure, you can drop the bottom with 50# if you're looking to catch tiles or rosies. Fish for something BIG and MEAN over BIG and MEAN bottom, and you'll be broken down like a bitch. In the northern Gulf we some times fish coral trees in 300+. They stick up 20-30' off the bottom like a big tower. You've got to be able to kick a fish's ass HARD and FAST. Even then, your line's often shredded from the fight near the tree.
You have essentially zero chance in catching a 30# gag on any type of structure with 50#. I don't care if you're in 15' of water or 400', you'll lose. |

That reel will hold 400yds of 130 power pro no problem. Got 80 on it and was able to get 570yds on it. Has plenty of drag on it. Not saying go buy one, but so far not a bad reel. I have the 3000 on order. That reel will hold alot. As for groupers. I put the reel on a 80-100 bent butt and did catch a 32lb black on a wreck in 160ft. The reel did fine. I did have trouble turning the timer off on the reel. Some how I turned the timer on and the reel would wind itself in every five min. Got that figured out. But so far the reel has been working great.

Had a chance to check these out at the last FS extravaganza.
Real fancy. Liked the kite reels w/ thier own power supply, pretty innovative. The deep drop stuff looked sharp, but I too was wondering about line cap. and brute strength. Asked the guy to give me a couple and I'd field test em free of charge. He said they were field tested. Falls under the new gadget category. Won't even consider one till they've been around a couple years.
