Hi all...

What a nice forum to find...

Just got an electric set up to try my hand at some deep dropping in southern Belize. I grew up in Stuart and had a chance to so a bunch of electric reeling in the Bahamas.

Hey Belize, where are you located?

Thanks everyone.

I am in Placencia...I usually go out the cut at Ranguana Caye... I am slowely figuring the fishing out... The locals are pretty tight lipped. Most of the boats fishing there are coming up from Guatemala. I don't think anyone has fished the deep. Can't wait.

i assume you have a good depth finder? need one that will read 2500 ft even though you will only be fishing in 450-850 most likely.
the locals cant help you as they havent fished deep and dont have the equip or electronics.?
what gear do you have?

I'll keep you posted...

Head down with the electric stick and a new Lowrance LNS 339C on the 9th and have 3 weeks to play.

Had a ball last month with some decent schools of blackfin tuna and some dolphin.... Time to try the bottom.

dolphin wil be gone soon...and the tunas// winter is coming ...weehoos are in...( we call theM weehoos instead of wahoos cause small here...a big one is 45 lbs avg 25). friend caught 10 in one day yesterday by mex border. another boat got 7. ballyhoos 4 bait. most locals here cant afford lures.

make sure you can find sinkers in placencia..i have been melting old dive leads and 3/4 filling a 10 lb cannon ball mold. that way there is a flat spot so the ball dosent roll around.

NO PROBLEMA WITH A BELIZE DEEP DROP EXTRAVAGANZA TRIP. I HAVE THE BOAT..

I fished 5 days in Ambergris Caye back in March of 2002. I fished bones for 2 days, tarpon for 2 days, and farted around on the inside reef for a day with my dad, filling up our guide's fridge. I had a great time, but I was cooked after day 1. I had a good Florida charter mate tan, and the Belize sun roasted me. That thing's BRUTAL down there!

yeah - weird how the sun can be so much stronger just 800 miles south! i was at caymans last week and 3 pm sun would roast you. then i went to lauderdale and 3 pm sun was just warm.

so much for fishig today...ready to go and cold front hit us early this am. fall-winter is definitely here and hurricane season is over...my official call.

Amen to that .. no more strong winds to deal with this year ... just now the cold fronts ruin my weekend fishing ... seas 4-8 ft ... not good for deep dropping ,,, maybe have to move to Belize

i got a break in the wx at 9 am and made up a 20 mile run north to rocky point...tides were wrong but caught some nice yellow eyes and a small misty..and then then squalls and lightening started coming fm north so we scud ran home.
weird thing today..i pulled up a yellow eye that had a hook and 4 in piece of lgreen mono leader stuck in his mouth - more like in his throat...it was definitely my hook and i hadnt fished this spot for a month..and he was fat! 700 ft. i guess a shark half cut the leader and the snapper busted it off when he bit it...

also learned that can send live sardines down to bottom and they dont spin die and twist up line...we ran out of cut bait so lip hooked some sardines - menhaden - on and down to 600 ft with 9 lb ball....caught snappers and a live sardine made it back to the top...but the cut bait ones catch more fish obvoiusly..

fisn n learn

Know a few of the boys here would jump on the wagon for a belize trip. :drunken:
What's your suggestion for the best month/ months.
What size vessel we talking? Sure we could bring enough lead
from here to keep you droppin for years.

dec-june is worst as windy so have to run quite a ways to get in lee behind atolls..
bestmonths for calm pretty days is august- october and airfares/hotels cheapest. plus slow time for me so easier to allocate fishing time.

http://www.ambergriscaye.com is the place.

boat is http://www.emerald.bz/man-o-war.jpg 30 ft on waterline..27 inside....has 2 big 8 ft long bench seats in front so fishes 4 comfortably. 2 x 150 hp etecs

lets go fishing next fall! i should have more grouper spots figured out by then.
