Default Deepwater Fish List / Regs?

Is there a list of deepwater fish species available for Florida? Mainly for identification purposes, but also for size and bag limit regulations. Seems a lot more difficult to ID the not-so-commonly caught fish. And I certainly don't wanna be nailed with an "illegal" fish without knowing it.

Hey Buck,
Can't help with the recognition manual, but the Florida Regs can be found at the following:
http://myfwc.com/marine/
You can expand your search from there. If I find an online source for species recognition I'll port it. You can find books on the various species at most quality tackle stores.
Edit: On that same page there is a link to an illustrated list of some of the saltwater species. It's not very comprehensive though ... doesn't even have a picture of a tilefish.
Hope this helps.

Default Some fish ID sites

I haven't managed to find an all in one fish ID book / site yet but I have found several decent sites. As far a regulations goes I follow the MyFWC like Gaitor suggested. Actually keep a laminated copy on my boat.

Here are a couple of sites I have found

Yeah I know I can get the "normal" regs from the MyFWC site. I'm interested in the uncommon fish. I'd be foolish to think that if it's not on that list, it has no regs.

Case in point: Those Barrelfish I caught last Sunday. It wasn't until after a good hour online that I was able to identify 'em... well after they were filleted and in my fridge. They are not in any of the ID books I own for Florida species. And neither are the Rosies I caught, which are quite common in the depths.

How about another request... Can anyone suggest a comprehensive published book of North American/Caribbean fish? Something that WOULD list the uncommon deepwater species too?

Pretty much almost all of those deepwater species have no limit because they're dead when they surface. Tiles having a limit is one of the very very few, along with the 5 grouper aggregate limit.

UB - go online to Amazon.com's book section and search for Petersen's Field Guide to North American Fishes(?) I bought a copy and keep it in my radio box for all the WTF?-fish that you bring in over the course of a year.

It enabled me to get the IGFA All-Tackle World Record for Spinycheek Scorpionfish. I'm fixin' to become King Of The Trashfeeesh.
