hello to all , great to find this site ... I do a lot of live baiting and drop on to the wrecks .. my favorate is the lotus .. usually catch bee liners ... my question is I would like to catch tile fish .. I have been told that I should try between 590 and 600 ft of water ... just drop any where and you can catch them .. is it true ..also I use power pro line 50 lb ... I drop manualy .. I know it sounds crazy ... but I have done it ...can any body point me in the right direction ... thanks

manually uh? I used to do the same. You work with what you got.
I'm not sure of any good spots for you off halover. I'll ask a buddy and see if there is a known area. |

thanks for the reply ... yes manually..I only have a 16 ft boat .. so not much room ... I`v got some nice grouper in 400ft .. and some i could not stop .. I will get them may be 50 ft off the bottom and then hang on .. right to the bottom ... using live pilcards |

Those that are whooping your ass in 400' could very easily be big gags or reef donkeys (AJ's). You don't really have a snowball's chance in hell of catching a big gag (60+lbs) on 50lb line. It can be done if you get lucky...but you'll have to be REALLY lucky. Here's a shot of one we caught back in 2003 in about 250'. He went 70lbs even. We caught him with 100# mainline, 125# leader, and about a 4# bonita slab.

I'm a veteran deepdropper having enjoyed it for over 15yrs. Off Haulover and so. to the keys and all over the Bahamas. I use only LP electrics , Penn 130's and the new 12v rigs. The biggest catch was 3 wreckfish off Bimini each one at 130lbs.That was at 2000ft. on wire line. Used to go to Orange Cay and pull up all the yellow eyes you could catch avg. around 15lbs. A friend caught (and put on the docks to weigh) a 1200 lb. sand tooth tiger shark and has lost a few even larger down deep.I always use a commercial fisherman to tell me the secrets. I am now looking for a fishing buddy who knows all about deep dropping, I have a 40' Tiara docked in Hallandale Beach and have all the rods and rigs. Anybody out there want to show me a few things? No novices, please.
