Default Key West deep dropping 5/29/06

Deep dropped yesterday morning. Headed out at 10:00 am with my wife. Just the two of us so I stayed close. Hit my closest rockpile about 8 miles out, and in 400 feet and pulled up our 10 fish Snowy limit and 2 Red Porgy limit and were back at the marina at 12:24.

Snowies were 6 between 5 and 8 pounds, a 12 pounder, a 16 pounder, a 19 pounder and a 24 pounder. Red Porgy were 17 inches.

Had to stop since we reached our limit and I did not want to kill any more fish.

That would definitely be a sweet fish, I wonder how he tasted though, probably not to good. Those 5-10 pounders are the best tasting meat you can get in a dolphin.

Yea it would really stink to catch that one in a life time monster. I'm with ya, rather catch 7 ten pounders.

last time i was down in Key west i tired south of marquesa in about 700 ft. and really didn't get many bites. However there wasn't much current. How was the current running while you were out there.

Default KW Current

If you get the Weekly Fisherman you can read my fishing report for Key West.

Right now the current on the reef and out to about 300 feet is about .9 mph to east. The break is right there at 300 feet. inside the break the water is a nasty green/brown color and 83-84 degrees. 3 feet away (deeper) is is 81.9 and blue and clear and ripping 2.5 to the east. from 300 break out to the wall it is running east at 2.5 mph.

The humps out in 600 feet have nice rips with large standing waves. Finding plenty of weedlines but not many fish. it was a week for working hard to find fish. Wahoo and Sailfish are out there in the rips too. Anywhere you see those rips drift through and watch the bottom and you will see 100 foot rises. mark em and come back when the current drops back down and you will find Snowies, Yellowedge, Gray Tiles and Rosefish on the tops of the humps. don't bother with the slope or bottom as you will waste your time.
