Spring loaded weight release

Has anyone seen a Spring loaded weight release? or know where I can buy them? I have used these in Lake Michigan with success, but I have not seen any heavy duty ones that will hold up to salt water use, and big game. They work like this, it is a cylinder shape with a fixed swivel attached to one end of the cylinder and a spring loaded swivel attached to the other end of the cylinder, in the middle of the cylinder is a small cut out notch that you slide your weight into, when a fish hits, the spring loaded end pulls open the pin in the notch and releases the weight. I wish I knew how to attach a picture as i have pics of them. Does anyone think these would work well for deep dropping? Thanks Mike[/img]

why would you want to lose 5 - 10 # weights on every drop?????

very expensive, what's the gain here? My Kristal can pull up my anchor if necessary so I don't get it.....

HI Alan, We used to use homemade concrete weights, however fishing at 100' verses 500' or more is a big difference. We basicly used 1# weights, but the fish were also alot smaller, 20# max. I just dont like the idea of of pulling up a 8# weight with a fish on, but that maybe the only other choice. By the way concrete weights only cost pennys to make, using a small plastic bucket for the mold and a wire in the top we would just release the weight and fight only the fish. I do have two big Miya Epochs that will have no problem with an additional 8# , I was just wondering if anyone has tried it. Mike

Hi! Alan:
Buy two six pack of beer, after they are empty, mi wife fills them with concrete and sink a u made of 14 gauge galvanized wire. tie them with thin cotton line. When the fish bite the cotton breaks easy.
How to get your wife do the job is a different matter. Diverdog

islandshark633 I forgot to mention the only time you lose your weight is when a fish hits it from the hook side, as that is the spring loaded side. If you want to bring up the bait and check it, the weight stays on because you are not pulling the spring side , you are pulling the fixed side of the release pin.

mike we use chicken rigs to deep drop most the time. i dont think the spring loaded idea would work, because we fish 3-8 hooks on one rig, not just a single hook as i think you are referring to. the weight being at the very end of the line and all the hooks above it.
