Bahamas Closed Season Grouper

FYI The Goverment of the Bahamas has declared that grouper is out of season from December 3rd. thru Febuary 14th. This means that it is illegal to catch gouper in the Bahamas during this time. If caught with grouper you will face Fines/ imprisonment/ and or confiscation of vessel. This measure has been taken to protect the Grouper stocks as they school to spawn. Please respect this action as it will ensure future fishing for us and our children.

does this include all groupers ? say a deep water grouper like a mystic ?
so if you pull up a mystic from 900 feet while snapper fishing you need to let him float away to save your boat ? :?:

I am not to sure on that one. I think the ban may be just for the Nassau Grouper. It may be best to check with customs and immigration before fishing. This is a new law that is quite progressive for the Bahamas. Finally we are trying to conserve and manage our fish stocks. I trust that every member of this forum can understand the importance of this action. Please help by spreading the news to all of the anglers you know. Thanks.
