Default ? on deep droping

Ok I am a bowhunter not a deep water fisherman.

I have fished the keys a few times out to 100 foot.Did real well on gouper/snapper. Now I would like to go deeper.Get some difrant fish I have never cought.

Here is my ?

1 How deep can you fish befor you need an electic real?

2 What size of fish is normaly cought at what depth?

3 What is the odds of a good fisherman finding fish to catch?

TY

Fishing deeper than 400ft without an electric reel is a chore for sure. If have ever cranked up even 300ft of line with a big weigh on the end or fish on the end, you know what I'm talking about.

The fish range from 6 inches up to over 50 depending on species.

You should by yourself a map to find some good bottom, or make friends with some local guys to find some wrecks offshore... once you find your honey hole, each drop will equal a few fish.

Good Luck

We went record hunting this summer for snowy grouper with a shimano tiagra 50w spooled with spectra.....550-800ft of water off of the elbow in the keys...that'll def get ur arms looking ripped in no time cranking up 15-25lb groupers from that deep. Electric reels are def where its at for "scouting" areas first but its always do-able if ur ready to put some sweat into it.

It'll be almost impossible to keep ur bait still at depths like that. The current will be moving u pretty quickly so just use the boat to power u enough to keep a good angle on the line. Also keep checking to see if your on/close to the bottom by dropping it down.
