Default First time Deep Dropping

Wanting to try deep dropping for tile fish off Jupiter. This will be my first time deep dropping. How deep? How much weight? Do you drift with current or power drift? Any help.

Congrats coming over to the deep side...A few drops and you will be hooked. There are a lot of guys on this forum that have a ton of experience and will help you out. For what its worth here are a few basic pointers from KWtuna.
I fish out of Key West so my advise is regionally revelant but the basics are the same.

Rod and reel. Unless you have some pyscho reel monkies on your boat go electric. Drop one time on a conventional and you will see whats up A Electromate is a good entry reel or a Krystal would be a nice set up - if money is growing on a tree out back LP1200s. Dont use mono line - 150# spectra or equal. Store bought hook rigs will work fine. Dont forget a good light

Weight is based on current and reel type. I use 1 to 2lbs per knot of current or 1 lbs per hundred feet of depth whatever is greater. Right now I use squid for bait but I here bonita and cuda works great.

Down here we fish structure - mud for tiles, rock for grouper. Use your depth finder to find good bottom and let it drop. We drift in the current and bounce the bottom. Kinda drag for a few moments and pick up a few feet and drop. You will get the hng of it...Good luck and catch em up

Welcome to the forum ACE,

that's some excellent advice from KWTuna, I usually go past 700ft and drop against the current, drift or power drift depends on the current.
try to keep the line as vertical as possible, if you don't get bite after a few minutes, pick up and either go deeper or shallower and try again from your original spot.

good luck,

Sam
