Well the bite was not incredible
, but we did manage 4 limits on snapper. Mixed bag of mangos, muttons, vermillions, yellowtails, lanes, and one beefy dog snapper. Didn't really see the spawn phish psychosis I was looking for. Big mango was about 5lbs and big mutt was 11. light leaders, and kingfish bellies, and grunt plugs were the baits of choice. Going to try on the north end ridiculously early Saturday am w/ the poolman. Report to follow.DF2

I think you'll probably have a coolerfull. Catchem up. Both the charters I am working this weekend have opted for doing the daytime reef fling. Have a feeling the fish will be sleeping off the party from the night before......We'll see. Good luck DISCO,Think Pink!!

Here you go guys, all fish were taken south of Long Key bridge in 80 - 100 feet. The grouper bite was all before the sunset went down (blacks, reds and one very large strawberry), four muttons, and a nice mess of 4 - 7# mangroves.
The goliaths were a pest, as well as the bluefish en masse (never experienced them so thick during the summer) as well as the small reef sharks). But the pilchards were very thick in the swordlight, which kept the action hot throughout the evening. Also saw some squid come up in the lights in 80', and small schoolies were all over the reef during the day and evening hours. The report is exactly as it happened. We had a great night with pretty much non stop action. Ivan has an enthusiam and energy for fishing that is great. Frank might have been a bit tired by night #3 in a row but did alot to help make the trip great. I'm glad Ivan picked up a few pointers and enjoyed my company. Thanks and lets look forward to the next trip together. Harry

Maybe we can try that Key Largo (mango / mutton trip this friday or sat nt?); otherwise we will have to wait for the next full moon coming up on July 18th. We can try my mango spot in 40' south of the red and green, and then hit Luis' mutton spot in 165' north of the can.
Pleasure fishing with both Ivan and Harry; and yes, I was pretty tired by my third straight night of reef fishing, however it wasn't until Friday when Harry showed up that we really "Klaubered" them.....good times had by all. Frank |

Cono, awesome haul. Great pics!!
Not sure where you guys were but that rocky bottom area north of the closed area at Tennessee produces some nice fish. I love the Long Key area, lots of options. Way to slay em.Juani Last edited by Captain Juan; 06-23-2008 at 08:56 PM.. |

Juan,
Our "secret spot" is well south of Tennessee, but I am curious, is there a closed zone north of there? We did see a bunch of small boats fishing right around the lighthouse when we were out there this Friday night. Tight Lines, Frank |

There's quite a bit of talent roaming around this site. I think a little SFC bottom tourney would be fun. Keep it simple biggest snapper, biggest grouper, One night brewhaahaaa Crown the SFC Bottom Scrapin Champ

Your on!
Date: Sunday, July 20th Largest aggregate weight (top ten fish for each species below): Snapper Grouper Bluefish No more than five anglers per boat. $100 per category plus your favorite bottle of rum (not trying to steal from a friend's wallet; just want to make it fun). The above date is firm. Let me know if you are in. Feel free to sign up other bottom bumper members in the funament. Lines in at 6PM and out at 6AM. No electric reals allowed, all fish must be digitally photographed.....poly's for all the crew Frank PS Bajakian is pretty deadly with the little yellowtail jigs on the 15# muttons; but you may have to run to Hopetown to put em in the boat. |
