Default Dolphin Electric Reels?

I am looking at a Dolphin 12v with a 5/0 Senator on it. I was told that you can kite fish with it, deep drop, and use it as a downrigger. Is this true? I was also wondering if it has enough power to go deep dropping with, so if anyone can help me out, i would really appreciate it.

Hey Cubano, how much is that rig setting you back for? I agree with Sword, a 5/0 sounds really lite for deep dropping. I did not know Penn made 5 and 7/0. I would recomend you go with at least a 9/0. I use 12/0's with Lindgren motors and there are times when they strain under the load of a full trap or a big fish or two. Just make sure you get enough power or you will get disgusted with the under performance of your rig.

I use a Kristal 655 XL on a unlimted Crowder bent butt, it's an absoulute beast! Cuban, i would reccomend the Krisatl 621 XL or the 601 XL if your looking for a cheaper setup then most of the Pitmans and bigger Kristals. The 621 is a perfect reel. It's really small yet powerful enough to winch up a big (100 pound) grouper. The 601 is a little light for deep dropping, but it would be good for depths that are 700 or less. The site for Kristal is Kristalusa.com, and the site for Pittman is Lindgren-Pitman.com

Default 621

is $1489 a good price for a 621 on a crowder deep drop rod with jerry brown 130 hollow core line and a deep drop lite? the 655 is $2460 with line and rod but that is way out of my budget. i hear the 621 is the best one if you do not want to spend a small fortune
