Default When a deep drop saves us from a fishless trip!

Last weekend i joined some mates for a shot at southern bluefin tuna, we didnt sight fish all day and certainly didnt turn a reel over either

...on the way back in from the shelf i noticed a few closely spaced contours on the plotter and convinced the boys to stop and have a drop in 186m of water (610ft).

First drop came up trumps! A Knifejaw of 2.2kg (5lb)... spirits were high as we landed 3 more in fairly quick succession .

Our time was up unfortunately so we had to head back in to start on the 5hr drive back home

These fish are excellent eating with firm white flesh, we fillet them and then remove the skin. Either pan fry or deepfry in a batter accompanied by a few ... yummo!!!

It was a good opportunity to use my Saltist 50H for the first time in the deep and i was extremely happy!

Cheers

AK

If you like that Saltist50H go on line to smoothdrag.com and order carbontex drag washers to replace the ones that the reel comes with. The drag capabilities of the reel will increase by 40 - 50% and will be smooth as silk. I have done all 6 of my saltists and a number for friends and all are amazed at the difference in drag performance.

Thumbs up saltist + smoothdrag = dead fish in da box...quick

Harry did the conversion for my 50H Saltist, and the difference is unbelievable. I spent the weekend bottom fishing in the Tortugas w/ it and didn't get punked out even once , while catching grouper to 30lbs and snapper up to 20lbs... even busted an AJ in the 60lb range in less than 5 mins on the rod . I think the conversion ( drag washers, bearings, and super grease) cost me less than 30 bucks. Well worth it in performance gained. Good Luck and keep the down under photos coming. I think most of us really enoy seeing the benthic beauties from down under

...i just did the drag upgrade for my Saltist 50H and was left scratching my head after i put the scales to it.

the max drag remained unchaged at 6kg (13lb)

...i followed the step by step guide here brushed on some Cal's reel grease on either side of the washers.

what went wrong?
