which fisheries management area are you talking about? GOMFMC, SAFMC?

In the SAFMC, their main "option" the SAFMC is proposing is a total moratorium for several months a year, effectively shutting down all bottomfishing for months at a time.

Give me a lower bag limit any day versus a season closure.

No, it's actually FOUR months a year, Jan 1 thru April 30. No Gags or Vermilions allowed. And the truly sick thing about this closure is that since there are many other groupers and snappers that can be targeted in the same areas as Gags and Vermilions, SAFMC has said that you can't bottomfish for anything during that time. Maybe the only things permissible will be Snowies and Golden Tiles.

SAMFC is run by George Geiger, a commercial fisherman with a Gulf Of Mexico commerical permit. His policies consistently stick it to recreational fishermen and if there is any new SAFMC policy that adversely affects commercials its only because he's sucking up to the environmental groups. He is a despicable piece of shit and I plan on giving him a piece of my mind at the Friday May 9th SAFMC public comment hearing In Port Canaveral.

SAFMC New Site > Home Check out the site and see what the have in mind for their Amendments 16 & 18, plus the Deepwater MPA's proposal.
