I got this electric and I have no idea what it is?? It's a 12/0 senator with a motor. It's got a label on it that reads Reel Quick writghtsville beach, NC patent pending. I already did the google search and that turn up nothing.
Brought it to Tommy green (needed a new reel clamp) and he had no idea. I've gone through it from A-Z. Changed the brushes on the motor, rewired it, new switch, new drag washers and polished it up a little. did a few drops with it with the old line it had on it and it cranks up 10lbs in a hurry. I've got a 2500 spool of JB 130 on its way, I should have this rigged for the weekend. I guess if this thing blows up on me I'll be shit out of luck I'll put up some pics of this old workhorse in a minute... If anyone has any idea what it is and if the company is still in biz I would appreciate it. ![]() ![]() ![]()

I have an Electramate 940XP on a 12/0 Senator and your motor pack almost looked like one for a second there. Then I noticed that funky grip handle that's built into it. It beats the hell out of me what that thing is but it looks beefy as hell. Still, I wouldn't carry it around by that grip; Senator's side plates & frames aren't that strong.
There are a couple titbits of advice that I can give you to help you have a meaningful relationship with your reel. 1) remove the motor pack from your reel and check your 12/0 to see if the old bronze bridge has been replaced with a stainless bridge. If not, you can get one for about $75 from Electramate.com. Install it and there will be far less chance that your gears & pawls will strip out in the future. 2) I don't know what kind of electrical setup you have on your boat but here is what I did for my electric reel setup considering I have a rolled-edge TurdVee. I removed the plug from my Electrramate cord and replaced it with black & red battery terminal clips. Then I went to Wally Mart and bought a 24-series El Cheapo car battery and a swing-top Playmate Cooler large enough to fit the batt inside it. I just clip onto the batt erminals and I'm ready to go. I also keep some emery cloth stored in a ziploc and keep that stored inside the Playmate just in case the terminals or clips need a cleaning from the saltwater air's corrisive effects. 3) I installed a car-fuse waterproof holder 30 amp fuse on the red wire and used heathshrink connectors and buttload of liquid electric tape to seal it all. I also ran a glob of Liq. ElectricTape around the seam of the fuse holder. 4) whenever you or your crew is deepdropping with that reel, drum into their heads that they are absolutely forbidden to throw the reel into gear (i.e. engage the drag lever) while the spool is still turning. Imagine this scenario - you are deepdropping for Golden Tilefish and you have an 8 lb stick of lead on the bottom of your rig and a 3 lb stick of lead on top at the snap swivel. Your crew has a brain fart/ senior moment/ whatever and they throw the reel into gear while the rig is still plummeting to the bottom. I'm here to tell you that Senator's or any other star-drag reel aren't intended to stop 11lbs of lead weight in mid-freefall. When it happens, you will hear a horrible scritching sound that will make you cringe, knowing it's going to be an expensive repair.5) finally, also drum into your crew's heads that they aren't allowed to hit the motor's button until they've first gripped the reel spool and forcibly revolved/turned it a few inches away from themselves. That ensures that the pawls and teeth are fully engaged. Once again, that horrible scritching sound can occur if this procedure isn't followed and the motor is engaged.Hope this helps! Catch

thanks guys!! I'm hoping to hit a few numbers this weekend (include the lotto LOL
)Catch-All now you tell me When I had the reel apart I noticed some wearon the bridge, (imagine that's gotta be common with these electrics) so I went ahead and changed it out for a new brass. I'll keep an eye on it and next time I'll go SS. thanks for the advice, I hate screeching sounds!! As far as power I do like you basically right now. I did pick up 2 30 amp receptacles and plugs at the flea market months ago. Got plenty of room in the console to rig something up.

Unless you remove the electric sideplate and there is some identification on the inside it could have been fabricated by any "bicycle shop" that had some machine tools. My buddy had a commercial snapper/grouper boat (65 footer) and fished with a crew of 6 - each fishing with a home made electric rig adapted to a Penn 9/0 that he had a small machine shop make for him. The point is anyone could have made it and unless you have a gear failure, and can't replace it, you should get alot of use out of it. If it "shits the bed" real quick I hope it wasn't too expensive.
It sounds as if you have it set up well and you got some good advice about the reel itself. The electric adaptation - anyone's guess. |

But yeah, I bought it well. I got 12/0, a 6/0 dolphin (wisenhunt) virtually brand new, the rod the 12/0 sits on (130# w/Bigfoots) and as a bonus, I was actually leaving and he said "wait, take this too", a 6/0 electric. I have no idea what that one is either, it is an antique. Looks to be from the 50's or 60's, the case is cast iron and weighs a ton!!! I'll post some pics tonight you gotta see this thing... I got the lot for basically for what I would have paid for the rod alone. Felt bad and told him he could get more, but said we were good. He even fills my bait pen with live bait from time to time. Love that old guy!!! Btw, I know that 12/0 catches fish. He busted his photo album open and showed me some of the fish he caught with it.
