Default deep drop 3-30-08

well it`s been 6 months since I had my boat out ... took it for her first sea trial after refurbashing the whole boat ... all went well except the depth finder had some issues! So had to relie on my trusty GPS to hit the spots took about a hour of bumping bottom to find one small golden tile ... not even sure what depth I was in but by the size must have been shallower then I normaly fish ... started late so didnt plan to stay out long after I had my legal limit of one tile fish figured might as well go for the usual roseies the way I always do .....managed to nail 8 of them ... looked like rain so called it a day ... didnt find any Dolphins .. but heard someone caught a 60 lbs king !

Also wanted to try out a new powerhandle from Reel Colors .that I put on my Penn6/0 .. all I can say is it makes cranking in the line a dream ... now I`m ready for a nice swordie

How did you get the old Transom out before you used the seacast? Over at Classic Mako we have had quite a few discussions on that subject.

well cut an opening on the inside leaving 3in of fiberglass border ..and on the outside I cut out a 6in by seven in hole ... that was being covered by an engine backing plate anyway ...all around the lower part came out in half hour of work ..most of it was muck ... the upper half took more time with drill bits and chisel about two weeks .... wound up cutting some of the top cap out also ... was a lot of work but well worthit ... just followed what was written on their web site ...

So did you pour seacast to form new topcap and then glass over?

No I used all of the parts I cut out ... poured in the seacast you have 20min working time ... takes two people .. and you have to have everything ready before you mix the stuff .... after I poured it ...I tucked a piece of fiberglass on top of the seacast .. while still wet it will bond with the fiberglass material .. after it is set .. waited 48 hours then fiber glassed the top cap back on ...it was very easy to do ...

Willi - congrats on your "new" ride ! I'm glad you at least caught dinner when you were out there.

I sorta know the feeling of pride you have on your massive boat repair. I did a massive upgrade on my TurdVee in March 2003. New engines, new hydraulic steering, added a beefed up ttop & radio box, added two built-in tackle drawers, re-did and beefed up the transom, shitcanned TurdVees shitty hatches and made my own leakproof hatch system, added three auxilary fuel tanks to increase capacity beyond their inadequate 80 gls, shitcanned all the plastic thru-hulls and went with bronze, shitcanned their bilge pumps and bait pump and went with hi-capacity Rule's, replaced their flimsy thin-wall hoses with thickwall sanitation grade hoses and put anti-backflow valves on all the bilge & baitwell hoses, shitcanned their crappy battery hold-downs and went with the massive ones sold by West Marine, ripped out all their shitty copper wiring and went with all tinned wiring, removed their flimsy Roll Control rodholders and went with extra heavy duty BlueWater Design rodholders, etc, Etc , ETC.

Whew! I'm tired just from remembering all the work I did on that damn thing, but at least it is TURD-PROOFED(tm) and has a reasonable chance of making it back without needing some kind of repair every time I take it out.

I know I`m glad it`s all over .. only thing I didnt replace are the 22year old Beneit trim tabs ..after going to the boat show and seeing the prices of all the boats in 16-17 ft range and costing up to $30,000...I`m happy with the out come ..of course I would like a new engine ... but it still runs great !Now Hope the SAFMC doesnt make all fish in the ocean catch and release..like Gieger wants ..I`ll be fine !

Willi - skrew buying a new boat. Now seems to be the best time ever to get a great deal on a used boat. My friend just sold his 25 ft Seavee, w/ Yamaha and aluminum FLoat-On trailer for only $18 grand. Then he bought a SeaVee 31 inboard single diesel for a little less than $30 grand.

I wish to hell I had some spare change rattling around right now. I'd have that kingfishing boat I've been fantaszing about for the last couple years.

Disco - damn straight! Now if Contender would come out with a 31 Fisharound single diesel that would become my new dream boat.

Willi - I laughed my ass off when I read your Bennet trim tab comment. I didn't know you had such razor-sharp wit. My compliments.
