I know a few guys who run to the Bahamas and deep drop all night. They have as much success as anyone during the day. Not much light down there anyway during the day. The light is crucial whether dropping day or night. No light no bite! 400 + feet!

Default What about while on a swordfish drift or slow troll?

Hey Deep droppers:

I have been listening to Jerry so far to build up some basic knowledge on deep dropping. So far I have not heard much about deep dropping on the dark side; but the idea sounds wonderful. Less solar pain! (Just wear an LED headlight.)

Just had some wonderful yellow-eye snapper from the Bahamas, caught around 1100 FSW, daytime fishing.

The nice comment about deep drop fishing is no-ciguatera. Wow, what a refreshing idea! Now how about methyl mercury: not sure? But for a daily dose have some big swordfish to go with that snapper or grouper.

Oh, what was the point? Ouch, ouch, it must be some kind of disease... Oh yeah, I would also like to know if anyone has tried deep dropping over some hills and valleys, while swordfishing at night. (Say Hollywood Hills - perhaps on a slow troll to hold a slow position.

Deep dropping at night is just as productive...and not as hot, temperature-wise.

Caught rosies all over Hollywood Hills when I tried it in '99. Good to eat but spiny and small.

Contrary to popular belief, you don't necessarily need a light to catch fish. We've been doing it for over twenty years and only started using lights the last 6 or 7 (LP's or those clear white ones). You'll still catch without them but not as quickly.

Don't know about mercury levels.
