Default Prospecting for Gold(ens)

I left Boynton inlet at 8:30am yesterday to do some prospecting for deep-drop spots. (Regular deep-dropping, not daytime swordfishing.) Golden Tiles, Blueline Tiles, Barrelfish, Rosefish... whatever I could find.

My goal for the day was to prospect for deep-drop locations closer to Boynton, my home-port. I didn't want to drop on any of my "known" locations. I wanted to find new ones. My first deep-drop was in 700ft, about a mile North of Wilmont's Hump. The current was a mere 1.3kts inside of 900ft, so tapping the bottom was easy. Drifted north for about a 1/2 mile. Nothing. Spent the rest of the day moving in/out to drop in different depths, from 400 to 1200ft. Tapped bottom for 1/4 to 1/2 mile in each location. Never found a single piece of structure, other than the typical longitudinal dropoffs. And not a single nibble.

By evening, I was just north of Boynton inlet. I was determined to fill the cooler with something for all my efforts. So I started dropping on and outside of the Skycliffe. After weeding through the little sharks, big blue runners, and several mid-sized AJ's, I finally caught my limit of 13"-15" Vermillions. I even got a cobia on the chicken rig, but it was 1-inch too short to keep. Oh well.

Did close to 60 drops throughout the day, and the Daiwa TB-1000 is still performing flawlessly. I didn't bother taking photos of the Vermillions or any of the other species, because... well... we've all seen 'em before. Next time, I'm going to prospect for locations between Boynton and Lake Worth. If anyone would like to suggest some areas I should focus on, for tilefish or other deep critters, I'd appreciate it.

Hope you find some nice spots next time. Sounds like you were in the fish when you dropped on the known spots.

May be doing the same this Saturday. I will be fishing a '38 Pearson out of LWI. I'll give you a shout if we do anything.
