Any news on the reg change issue to alleviate the rumors on the coast over here?
Heard a revision was going into effect on June 1, 2007. Then after an inquisitive e-mail, get a reply from Michael Braynen stating that discussions have taken place but no revision date has been set or will be set anytime soon. Latest gossip I'm hearing now is that "Attorney friends" (shouldnt believe them) state that the change is taking place July 1st or August 1st of this year. ISLAND SHARK...any truth to these rumors so I can quit therapy or put the rumors to rest. Any word on anything on your side of the island. Thanks a bunch.

Ive heard the same rumors but cannot get them confirmed. My outboard mechanic swears one of his clients has a place in West End and that they have been changed, but I see nothing in writing anywere.

A pretty good source -- i think.... ( he runs a tackle shop in LHP ) told me yesterday that the regs were going to change very soon. I can not confirm anything.

All the locals (on 3 different islands) are telling me that they ousted the guy that originally came up with the new regulations, elected a new one, and that the laws are probably going to change in the next few months. But they also said not to expect the laws for the lobster or conch to change. The fish limits will. They also never banned spearing (poles or hawaiian), you just had to get a special permit to do it when you cleared in.

With regards to the spear, they just put how many spears you have on your cruisers permit...better put them on. No extra charge or questions

Island Shark / EdHartmanSr and any others previously back from the islands...I've been reading reports from those (on another forum) that fishing was dead outside of treasure, more specifically from Spanish down to Tiloo? Any truth to this or could these people be just dragging baits and expecting the best?
I will be heading to Grand in 5 short days and from there heading around Spanish to Treasure so any info would be greatly appreciated. While others may be catching what they want I will abide by all the rules and regs to assist with the conservation efforts of the Bahamas. I do however want to limit out each day while I am there. Oh...1 last thing...any Blues or Whites being reported out by Jurassic Park, Table Top or any other areas outside of Treasure? Thanks

The week prior to our arrival and while we were there, they were biting inside more than the deeper spots. If you venture down that way, we had a lot of luck in the "thumb" area just northeast of the Hopetown lighthouse, and right in front of the lighthouse between 1,200 and 2,000 feet. Good luck and catch 'em up.

Fishing was very slow in the Guana area. I only saw one Dolfin at the dock in 3 1/2 weeks. We did catch some Wahoo (3) and a White Marlin near Wonderland out of Man-of-War. The Tuna run in the evenings was good. The bottom fishing was a bit slow, but deep dropping in the right spots, did pay off. We stopped at Spanish on the return trip and they were not having great fishing either.
Good luck and enjoy your trip.

Willie, they are always empty after season. This is when they make their money and get their high season rates. And it seems like they are definitely off at those places that cater to fishermen.

To those that ventured this year to the Bahamas. How s the mood in those places.? Are they noticing the lack of people going there or basically business as usual. Do they care? Anyone?

When I was in Lucaya in June they were very happy to see us and told us that business was way off with the change in fishing regs. But that was at Ocean Reef Yacht Club and I think that place is/was a favorite of fisherman because of its setup. Old Bahama Bay in West End told me that it was business as usual, but I'm not sure that I believe them.
