Well got wind of a new rumor that they changed the regs back to 1987.99% a rumor every one in the islands has a diff story They are handing out old regs and some guys say they are good Ask 2 diff officials get 3 diff answers. Ask a guy on the dock and they will say take a Bahamian and keep all you want

I almost called you to see if it was true but when I asked around I got all of the above input.I did see that the old fishery guy said the regs should stay the same and that foriegners like the americans should not be allowed to rape there oceans. He sais he could not come to the US and do it.But if he did come he could gets the same limit as me.But if I go over there I have to keep less then a local!

I would not take anything the old guy said seriously, he was clueless at best. I have not heard anything lately other than they will change it at some point. As you can see from teh reports there is no consensus in teh islands from the authorities who clearly remain as confused as us. Enforcement remains non existant as ever, i.e. voluntary.

I just heard there will be a temporary ammendment tot he regs by the end of this week, mostly to do with the demersal fish 20# limit. No details yet. This is designed to give some sort of relief while the committee looks at the whole thing and a proper set of usable regs can be implemented. At least thats something.

Default Dear Committee

Dear Committee:

While you are working out your revised master plan for tourist fishing regulations, please consider this:

Perhaps if the committee can take a hint: change the per boat provisions to per person.

And head and tails intact: come on! This is not practical to the reality. (Keeping the skins on is not a bad way to go, if you still need to identify a species.) Maybe the committee would like to be invited on a fishing trip to re-enact the typical situation. A little bit of hands on experience can go a long ways to a practical solution.

For the longer version: specific limits per fish species, per person, is the optimal way of conservation because you have a specific control mechanism.

Thanks Alan, for the heads up. Are you going to be in Fort Lauderdale this weekend?

yes, I will be in Fort Lauderdale Saturday morning onwards, hangin with CATCHING and then obviously fishing the JD

You will also be glad to know that the steering committee is made up of knowledgable fishermen, civilians, who will no doubt push for much more that they are likely to get. Remember that what is announced this week is merely a stop gap measure and not the final word so please everyone dont go nuts if you dont see what you want right away.

They are aware that Key West marina is full and ours are empty....

I think its hurting Bimini and GBI, but the other islands seem to be doing fine, my buddy from marsh said nothing unusual happening over there, all the marinas are full in Nassau, seems like a steady stream heading SE.

its all typed up but not signed yet so no release of info......

The prime minister just bought a new Kristal (dont ask how I know....) and you can be sure he does not want to stop fishing at 19.9lbs of snappers.

But the new limits dont apply to Bahamians so he s cool no matter what the rules.

And how do you know about the PM s purchases?
