You just have an eloquent way with words. Exactly how do you ASSUME to catch and release Marlin?

I'm impressed. NOT! Frankly I could care less if you build a fire with $100 bills and roast wieners and marshmallows on it.

I'm not alone in my thinking on this. Seems the general thought of many more than me, is that the Keys, Marquesas, and Tortugas are looking better every day.

Capt. Adam has single handedly stirred the hornets nest on the Deep drop thread now, as well. Intentional? Maybe.

I'm simply going to sit back and watch the fireworks! Have fun!

I have 3 boats on the dock, way too much work ahead, I have alot better to do than stir $hit on the forum. On the deep drop forum, i just posted the information for the closed season on Nassau Grouper. Wanted to make sure that visiting anglers were aware of the closed season.

I wasn't trying to impress you, I was just stating some economic facts... The bigger you get the more you realize you're a small fish... I'm still a guppie. I have friends who pay their captians more than my weekly salary. Those big Vikings and Hats burn up to 120 gallons per hour, and those guys buy their avgas for their Kingairs from the bahamas. Whatever...All these people want to do is fish for marlin.
Simple math...thats all. I'm done with this. Make a valid point atleast.

What is the final verdict? Are the new regs, the law, or are they re-visiting the situation? I hope the latter.

the new regs are NOT yet law and they are most definately being reviewed. Some of the posts here were printed in the local paper a few days ago as evidence against the silly new laws.

Best info I have received lately is ... read your Bahamas fishing permit when you arrive. Your cruisers permit $150/$300 allows you to revisit the waters for up to 90 days.

Let's see.... New laws proposed to go into effect on Jan.1st 2007. It is now the date, but no reply from the Bahamian Government. I wonder if John F. Kerry is part of the group? Meaning, "Flip-Flop".

They just might be dining on "crow", this morning. The "Bean Counters", didn't do their homework, on this issue.

It is not unlimited trips within the 90 days - it allows you to make one return trip within 90 days without having to pay for another cruising permit. If you make a third trip you have to pay the fees for a new cruising permit, even if it's within 90 days of the first trip. You still have to clear Customs and Immigration each trip. That has been the policy since they raised the entry fees several years ago.

unfortunately the paper in question does not have a web site, and the quotes came from a forum called OUTDOORSBEST or something like that. Suffice to say the posts are pretty much the same sentiments as posted here and forwarded to the ministry my myself last month.

The Minister in question responded with some guff about how he thinks true sportsmen will release everything they catch anyway so there will be no difference in arrivals and hotel revenues. Just another polititian completely out of touch with reality, a beurocrat with no clue to the content of his subject matter. So what else is new? Very sad situation really, the little local island hotels and mainas are the ones who will suffer financially and yet I have not heard a peep out of them about this ridiculous situation.

When will they ever realise that it is an ENFORCEMENT issue, not a rules and regs issue? (kind of like gun control really) Those coming to the islands from north or south intent on pillage will continue to do so regardless of any rules in place as they are well aware that the laws are not enforced. The only people who will no longer visit are the ones who respect the rules in the first place, i.e. the majority of US visitors. Our loss.

Islandshark, I have a lot of respect for you. You accepted that fact that your country has made a bad decision, and it is a shame that your fellow countrymen do not see it. Again, kudos for saying that.

I agree it is an enforcement issue.

Are the limits per day or per visit to the islands. I read them as a daily bag limit is that correct?

I don't know about any of this anymore. I know nothing has been implemented. As long as it reads clearly - whatever.

I read it as a possession limit (as it always has been in the Bahamas). I'll be in Bimini in the morning - hopefully I'll have something to report when I get back.

No fish to report - not a wahoo in sight between Bimini and Victory Cays. There were some caught up around Isaacs but we found out about them too late.

No word on the new regulations at Customs - no signs either in the Customs House or on the docks. Michael at Sea Crest said he had not yet heard anything about when (or if) the new regulations would be enforced .
