Default "save the recreational fisherman" petition

Friends and fellow fisherman,

President bush is considering using the antiquities act of 1902 to bypass all political and public processes to form large national monuments in our oceans, He has already declared 140,000.square miles off the coast of Hawaii, this area will never be fished again and once he has signed it it can never be overturned! Now he has his sights set on some of our most prolific fishing spots in the Gulf of Mexico, the East coast of Florida, Georgia, Carolinas, and some islands in the Pacific. Please take one minute of your time to sign the petition at Save The Recreational Fisherman - Online Petition I have provided a comment section on the petition if you would like to offer your personal concerns to our president. With High fuel prices and already reduced bag limits this would be a devastating blow to our economy and our way of life. It seems that the Pew Trust has bought themselves a president and is on a roll to fast track there agenda before he leaves office. Please try to pass this along to everybody you can. Thanks all for your time!

Regards, Jim Stewart

Jim/ Wacker - your intentions are good and well-meant. However, I know a former Democrat congressional staffer who became a lobbyist and I also worked on a Republican congressman's campaign as a volunteer.

What I learned is that it's unfortunate but the simple fact is that emails are unread and deleted by the staffers and online petitions are discounted or ignored. The only thing that politicians pay attention to are phone calls, hardcopy letters sent by snailmail and faxes. That's it.

My fishing club sent letters about 6 weeks ago on this issue to Pres Bush, Bush's environmental adviser Mr. Connaughton, Senators Nelson & Martinez and my local congressman Tim Mahoney. I sent the letters to Bush & Connaughton to let them know directly of our club's opposition. And I sent the senatorial and congressional letters so that they can put pressure on Bush from their perspective.

You are correct Mr. Catch-all, And I think you for what you did from the bottom of my heart!

My intention with this is to get the word out to folks cuz frankly they don't know and even when you tell them some don't get it, besides we need to just let our foes know we are here. This act is not a political process that we Americans are used to and find it hard to believe. Some folks have asked where are the closures exactly but we really won't know till it is to late, That was by design. To tell the truth it really doesn't matter where they pic to do this IT IS WRONG! It is not what the Act was intended for, It undermines the system that has been put in place by the American people and will make all other management policies infective. We have no say in this whatsoever and they will proly get whatever they want but I will not go down without my finger in the air.

I will deliver this petition by hand to all the Texas reps along the coast and walk it to Austin TX which have a lot to lose from this action. I will mail it to every swinging dick that has anything to do with Washington This will at least let them know that we are here and active I would love for everyone to write letters and make phone calls but you will be lucky to get 300 letters from the entire US.

Do you think for one minute that this petition is going to hurt our chances of stopping this action?? I don't! and most people will spend 30 seconds of there time to have at least a little hope.(except on this board)

The Pew Trust and the President should not have the right to decide the fate of the recreational fishery and it is a slap in the face of every dang one of us.
What is going to happen to our current fishery models when you close down large areas of the most prolific grounds in the country? Catch rates will fall and then they will be crying that fish stocks are down cuz they only count fish that hit the docks for the model, Next thing "The Sky is Falling" and we need more areas closed and tighter limits. Where does this train stop?

Bottom line, sign it or don't, Make the calls or don't, Send the letters or don't. That is all the choices we have on this and at least I have given it my best shot to let folks know what is going to happen.

Jim/ Wacker - excellent post. I agree that your petition will not harm our cause, opposing the Pew/ Bush IITS Executiver Order scam.

It looks like we both had the same intent; it's just that it needed a little fine-tuning. So long as everybody also mails/ faxes their opposition to this scam to their two Senators, their Congressman and this mis-guided Connaughton guy and Pres Bush, then we have all the bases covered.

I can predict right now that if the eco-fascist enviros keep pushing and Pushing and PUSHING their elitist agenda, the day will soon come where people will finally say in disgust "screw it, I know there are plenty of fish out here and recreationals aren't and never were 'the problem'. It's time for a little civil disobedience and to hell with the regs!"

These arrogant, ivory-tower, Lava Lamp Luddites are going to see a furious backlash from real Americans pent up with fury and righteous indignation.
