My 2nd time going to Lucaya from WPB will be late June 2007. Last year produced a ton of cuda and one mahi. We didn't know where to go so for the best action.
Any ideas where we should look this year? Any specific locations / depths / stay near shore, travel off??? What else can we expect to catch over there in late June puling ballyhoo? Is the West End better for fishing or stay over on the south side? Would love to find a few grouper / snapper too. Any help or advice is appreciated!! |

Chris- I am going over to Lucaya for a week in mid June and will be fishing and partying with friends. I will fish NW Providence channel looking for birds to find the tuna and dolphin. Last year I was there this time and we caught many small dolphin and about ten tuna. We did some deep dropping which was OK and some bottom fishing which was lack luster. If I was going purely to fish hard, I would stay in West End and go north daily towards Memory and Mantanilla shoals. The bottom fishing and deep dropping is much better there and the trolling can be good at times. But with the new catch restrictions, you would probably limit out really quickly and then what would you do in West End?

We are going over to Lucaya in early June for a week. We will be fishing the Channel as well...probably 15-20 miles south of Freeport. The bottom fishing is good at the gingerbreads. I'll be out for the YFTs, and possibly a shot at a blue one. Not the best place for that. Go early and late...they will be on the move

ChrisWilson...
If I may suggest some great info that "IslandShark" gave to me. Purchase the Bathymetric chart #120F from Waterproof Charts Just type Bahamas in the search engine on the main page and you will find everything you need. Chart #120F gives some good detail and alot of the "very Published" numbers in the area surrounding Lucaya. Good Luck and Tight Lines FYI...It was the best $25 I ever spent. Thanks again Island Shark.
