Default Fishing in Venezuela

Well we made it to Venezuela. It took us 41hrs and 537 gallons of fuel from St Croix to go 451 nm. Got here at 630 am on Thursday morning. Trip was very uneventfull thank god. No bad weather. Did have an engine issue to address, an o-ring for the salt water disharge from te heat exchanger started leaking and I replaced it while we were underway. Other than being tired still all is well and will start fishing very soon.

First time out we saw 11 fish and released 1 blue, 3 whites and 2 sails. We had a quad up, but missed them all some how. The blue was about 300lbs on 30 Tyrnos reels and took about 1h20m to release. Overall a good first day. The Vintage released 2 blues and 18 whites and the Waterman release 1 blue and 12 whites at last count. We are fishing till Thursday. Will update daily.

Quack, Who would of thought of swording during the day. Several have been cought over 300lbs and one boat came in with 5. Tunas are not everyday, but are averaging about 175lbs.

Later

Yep. We will see if we can catch a swordfish in the winter (feb) on daytime. We wil try to catch a grandslam in wintertime !! But they say that februari is always good for blue marlin and YFT. So we will catch our fish !!

Fishing was good on Tuesday, but our hookups were not. We saw 16 fish in the spread and released 4 whites and a sail. On Wednesday(today) I am not feeling well and we decided to leave late about 9:45 to get fuel and head out, liines in around 11:00 and nothing till around 2 when we had 4 fish in the spread and released 2 whites and missed a hookup on the third. Then same area about 15 min later released one. Same place had 3 in the spread hooked up on 2 and a third decided to attack a teaser hanging in the water from the rigger as we were backing down on the double. Released a double all in about an 2 hour span. Left at 5:45 to go home. There is so much trash and tree limbs, tree trunks wood and so much other stuff floating in the water right outside the inlet it's rediculus.

Fuel is the great thing here 387 gal for 52 dollars and it is clean. Burns cleaner too. Out transom has very little soot on it and is easier to clean.

Till next time.

Thursday 11:45 blue release, about 12:45 sail, then at 3:30 a white, So far a Grand Slam. We decided to try our hand at Swordfishing here, about 5-10 mins into setting up a second line the first gets ripped from the rigger. After 20 mins or so of cranking a 200 +lbs breaks the surface and while leaderinig the fish for the third time pulls the hook. Technical release, so there is our Super Slam. The only 4 fish we catch so far. We continued swordfishing and boated one about 150lbs. Too us it's a great day. For the week, the boss's first Grand Slam and to top it off a Super Slam. He leaves in the morning. Will be back wednesday.

Till then.

Sorry for the no posts. Got sick and went home for a week. Our fishing last time was ok, not great. There was a tournement here actually 2 on the same weekend. We tried switching to circle hooks and had raised alot of fish, but missed alot. We did get hooked up on a big tuna and broke the main line at the windon swivel. We did release 16 whites 6 sails and 3 blues in three days fishing. right now I am waiting for the mate and owner to return. Since we had 2 weeks off I let the mate go home. I just returned saturday night and they should return this friday. We are planning on returning the boat home around Thanksgiving and getting some work done. I will post results this weekend unless we don't fish.
