the key to gettin the big fish most often is to fish with big baits, there are quite a few big fish in shallow water but most 15 lb plus are caught deep.
Don't be scared to fish in the 180-250ft range thats were da monstas be. Favorite bait is a Gog, but if the currents not too strong a Cigar minnow hooked in the tail will work wonders.
