Question Lobster Baits

Caught a cubera a couple weeks back fishing a well known shipwreck off Boynton. A friend that was fishin with us started telling of a reef he knows loaded w/ spanish lobster We have been talkin bout gettin a load for baits and headin out to the wreck to specifically targeting cuberas. Anybody have any experience w/ using lobster for bait? Any and all riggin suggestions would be appreciated.

Many years ago I tried doing that with heavy jigs with inline double hooks.
Using them like a giant shrimp jig.
Didn't have too much luck but I put that more on being in the wrong place.

Honestly I cant remember it was too long ago
I remember that the idea was to jig at the ledges so I wouldn't think it would matter if they were alive or not just fresh

DF2,

Yes those bugs are great cubera baits, particularly on the deeper wrecks and reefs in late July and August. A large hook on a jig is a good way with the hook point in the head of the bug but not near the brain.

Alot of the guys in Miami and off the upper keys target these fish during the summer. Maybe a few of them will chime in with their methods.

I believe that the guys in the Keys use a 2-hook rig. they put the top hook in the horn area, and then rubber the 2nd hook to the tail. I maybe wrong.

But why the hell would you waste dinner like that. If you want to share those numbers for that lob spot in boynton, I'll go havervest your bait for you . I'll promise I'll keep it in good shape too.

Manny is on the right track .. I am sure they use a rubber band on the first hook also .. but use a heavy reel those fish are very strong ... but not sure the big cubera`s are good eatting ?
