Default Marathon Grouper

I am coming to Marathon in mid March and want to hook some good eats. Last year I had fun catching little sharks and cudas in the reefs close to shore but this year I want to target a grouper for dinner. Do I stay around sombrero reef, get out of the reef all together, go to a wreck (if so which one)? Help!!

i have a house just south of marathon in summerland key and we just caught a 28 and a 20 pound black grouper, along with a bunch of other groupers and about 20 other muttons, the biggest topping the scales at 19 POUNNDS and one just under it at 18 POUNDS!! we caught them on the WRECKS, you might get a nice one on the reefs, but the wrecks are the way to go escpecially during the march and april months you will see Permit and cobia on the topwater of the wrecks feeding on the bait, might get lucky and catch one (we caught the grouper and the muttons this weekend [Feb. 16-Feb. 21]) I HOPE IT HELPS!!!

I agree with dtorbert. I just got back from Marathon this week and the wrecks were hot. Set your drag to full or be prepared to get rocked up! Good luck.

Yes, but it can vary day-to-day. Try different baits as well. Bring crabs, shrimp, pinfish and anything else you can get your hands on.

Do you power drift or anchor, on the wrecks, down there.

Cheers, DL
