Thumbs up Cold front gags

Watched the last cold front roll in anchored up on the steps of the six mile
12/26. No sooner than I felt the first bit of cooler air and wham big hit on a still bleedin grunt head. Bite stayed good for about an hour. 4 gags, and 2 keeper true reds graced the fish box. Gags ranged from 28"-35", and the reds were barely legal. Best day of quality bottom fishin I've seen in months. Keep an eye on the upcoming cold fronts. If you can get out ahead of them the fishin should be hot from now thru feb.

I've been wanting to go get after them Gags as well. Hopefully we can get a few decent days before they disappear.

We released a few short true reds also. Barely short. At 19" a short red is a 4-5lb fish. Read yesterday that the comm guys can keep em 13" and up . Don't get the Mgmt theory in that . Thinking the bigger reds may be out a little deeper. Swordin Saturday. Sunday its back to the reef . If the current allows were gonna try a couple spots on the deep side of the eight mile. Guys in the gulf are saying they are getting a bumper crop, and that they feel like they have made a comeback. I don't see the comeback here at all .
They are definately few and far between or I'm just fishin the wrong spots.
Really wish something could be done about the shrimp bycatch. When they figure out how to stop killing 80% of the juvies we might see a real rebound.

I saw several of them in PBI while snorkling this past weekend (1/8/07)

They were hanging on the south side, of the north jetty.

Genuine Red Snapper? In PB Inlet? Or gags? I've caught keeper gags in palm beach inlet. Its usually now thru feb that they come up inside.

Talking Grouper fishin Canoe style

Right on Steve. Would have been pleasantly shocked if indeed you had seen a true red in PBI. Believe it or not the first keeper gag I ever caught, I caught out of the Lake Worth Inlet, from my canoe, when I was 15 years old.
Never forget it! Had just watched the cruise boat go out w/ all the passengers on the rail looking at the crazy kids out in the inlet in thier canoe, filled w/ deep sea fishin equip ( borrowed from our fathers of course ). We were fishing the edge of the reef on the south side w/ live pinfish. Cold Feb evening. Still have the pic. 9lb gag from the canoe.
