This video was taken off of Jupiter but they are taking over many of the reefs and wrecks down here. I'd say it's time to open up the Jewfish fishery again. One fish per boat daily limit.

They should have a slot size for them like what they did for Snook.

I agree, a slot limit and one fish per boat limit. Might also help to rebound other reef fish (snappers/grouper) that are being eaten by all the jewfish on our reefs.

Just be able to buy tags for them, will increase the fisheries revenue and get rid of some of the pests. As far as slot size, 1-500 lbs is about right. Only the smaller ones are good to eat, the larger ones get too wormy

They are getting to the point that they are becoming a nusance. At one point they needed protection, now they are threatening populations of other reef fish. Just put a slot and quantity limit on them to manage them. If spearfishing becomes a problem, make them a hook and line only species.
What's the big deal...

That's what I was thinking... porkfish must not be good for Goliath bait! hahahaMy thoughts: Tag required per fish, minimum size limit only. Make the permits available once per year, like gators. Last edited by Uncle Buck; 06-22-2009 at 07:29 PM.. |

sucks when you get a fish on and have to give it up to them suckers! I like the idea of opening season on them! the things have some slime on them when ya catch them though! we put one in the front of a vw a long time ago to go sell it... slimed my buddies car equal to ghost busters back then
