Default Quick bahamas mutton run...

Been wanting to get back east for quite some time now...with the full moon falling on sat the 9th and an extremely promising weather forcast for the whole weekend, we decided last minute to bounce across the stream and hopefully cash in on the mutton spawn. Cutler and myself loaded the Jewelers up late thurs night after I had sabikied up 300+ pilchards earlier in the day, and we were good to go. After a couple changes in crew it wound up just being him and I. On our way out fri morning we wound up adding 1 more after Cut couldnt turn down the given bribe...Super smooth crossing and checked in at west end in the early afternoon.

On our way north to "the spot" we decided to take a swim for a few hours and hopefully pop a few fish. Jumped in the water in 30-40 ft with the slings and shot a couple of nice hogs, a good start to the trip. Got where we wanted to be around 5, had a bite to eat, and started fishing around 6. Bite started off hot. I threw the kite up while the others bottom fished...Right away I picked off a few 10lb dolphin while they had a slow pick on the mutts and a couple more dolphin on the flats. Around 6:30 the mutts turned on big time and Cut started off strong with a couple fish over 15lbs on the deep jig. I kept busy adding 4 decent blackfins to the box from 10-15lbs as well. Right before dark the jig gets hammered on the way down in about 350ft...Cut come tight, line goes slack and suddenly there is about a 100lb white marlin jumping 30 ft away from the boat. Fought him for a few minutes and he wound up throwing the jig..oh well. As the moon came up we all started bottom fishing and the bite was insane. Baits were getting hammered as soon as they hit the bottom by nice mutts, from 8-15lbs. Had dinner around 10 and the bite was still going off.

Shortly after things took a turn for the worse, the wind went from 5-10 to 15-20 and eventually sustained in the low 20's and the seas jumped up something nasty..We were taking every other wave over the bow and could no longer hold bottom where we were fishing...Had no choice but to go anchor up in shallow, 30 ft ish and picked off a few more mutts as the seas continued to build. We got stuck in there till about 6:30 in the morning when the wind finally died down. Back on the edge of the reef in the am the bite had slowed a bit, we picked up a few nice dolphin on the kite and a couple fat ceros on the flats before heading home around 9. Overall we had a great trip, minus the late night weather...

Nice ocean on the way up the bank...

Nice cow off the kite.

1st mutt of the trip

Default Enjoyed your Post!

That was really a great post. HARD CORE fishing. I love it!

I agree that grill IS THE GREATEST INVENTION.

I gotta get my stuff together and get over there. Life is too short to work all the damn time.

Thanks for the motivation.
