Default WED.-Islamorada permit fishing

Went Permit fishing yesterday at the Eagle wreck..There were 8 boats fishing it but we managed to hook up 2 fish but lost them on the wreck.: we were using 20 lb. with 50 lb leader but could not stop them. There are a load of permit on the wreck now as it is swponing time for them now. We then moved to go yellowtailing and caught 5 flags between 4 and 5 lbs. That was in 1 hour of fishing. The dolphin fishing fishing has been pretty slow down here but the bottom fishing has been pretty good.

For all who care the Doc Demille off Pacific is loaded with permit as it is every year at this time. They will begin leaving very soon but with live crabs you still have many chances on any day at 40+ pound fish. The wreck is one in a cluster of 4 wrecks where the permit spawn each April and May. They are in 165 feet of water and the fish are almost all lost to the wreck or the sharks that patrol the area. With 65# power pro and 60# fluro leaders the fish eat the baits 20 - 30 feet down and you cannot hold them out of the wreckage. They are really tough fish!

Default permit

They should be leaving by the end of this month for shallow water. They are thick now.

i was at the permit wreck today they were really thick. we hooked up like 15 to 20 times on 20lb spinning gear with 20lb mono and only landed 2 fish a 20 and a 27 lbers. probly could have landed 90% of them if we had like 50lb braid.
