Default 3/29 report... miami

sup guys this morning we head out of matheson as usual and have a hard time with the bait. caught about 3 dozen at bug light with 20 other boats breathing down our backs so we decided to head out and fish. saw 100 kites flying but i wasnt sure if i wanted to do the whole kite thing. i saw no one catching anything and i knew the bottom is always hot at this one spot. so screw the kite... save the baits for the groupers/muttons. 1st drift and baaaaaaaaaam its on. the fish is running like crazy so im thinking kingfish, but it was kinda deep for that, 155ft. so now im thinking shit maybe its a wahoo. but i was using a pilchard on a 30lb leader with a circle hook, he woulda cut me off and i felt no head shakes. so i fight this bitch for like 20 min and its giving me nothing. im thinkin now its gotta be a grouper, but the quick runs it was making made me think it had to be something. finally i get some color, he comes to the surface, booya, amberjack. sucker is like 40+ inches. gaff'em and puttem in the cooler. the fish weighed about 50 lbs on my scale at home.

now the sad part of my story, i hooked up on another drift and the rod was bending hard with signs of life on the end of the rod so i knew it couldnt be a rock could it? bleh it was a rock, got hit by a huge wave before i could back the drag down and the rod did a complete circle and snapped at the base. i caught the rod before it hit the water and the reel/butt with my other hand. so we reel it in, and it had a 10lb black on the end of it. nice fish but i was still pissed. couple more drifts but caught small reds/muttons. here is a pic of the AJ.
