Post islamorada bottom report last week

awesome jigging last week, ajs everywhere on the eagle wreck. couple crevalles. after pullin up a 40 pound aj, we got out the biggest hook we could find and stuck it through its nostrils and threw it back down. WHIZZZ, the 50W takes off, as we get set for the 600 pound goliath that lurks around there. total chaos trying to work everything out, when the depressing 'pop'. already lost it as soon as we hooked it. next day, determined to bring that sucker up, we drop down a 10 pound aj. with the drag totally locked down and my bro palming the drag, the clicker doesnt go off; the rod bends in half. we floor the boat tryin to yank it out of its hole . my bros crankin that fish up like his life depended on it. we all know the lines gonna break any second, when we hear, 'look there it is!' the fish is beginning to surface, we cant believe we got it, but then we realize that its not 600, but more 130-150. oh well still awesome . it was one of the prettiest-ugliest fish ive ever seen. it was a blast. other than that, we got some shark and some margate(?)(a silvery fish that closely resembles a snapper, no red, just silver witha black line down its back.). Cant wait to get back to islamorada.

Hah! Sweet jewfish

You will find that you break off more fish if you floor the boat, rather than just driving off easily. Fish your bait farther off the bottom and make him come up for it. Once he eats, just drive off, but don't haul ass. That's how big warsaws are often caught in 300'+ on big wrecks.
