Whats the best way to remove gasoline from the bilge? Had a helpful newbie put 5 gals in the rod holder thur night. We filled the hull w/ water and laundry detergent and took the boat on the trailer over some bumps, and a bridge or two to slosh it around real good and drained. Just wondering if there is a better way. She still smells of fuel in the hold

I had that on my old 17 mako.
the only way the smell went away was to leave it open for a week or so and let it all evaporate off. The problem is there is going to be a thin film of gas that is sticking to the fiberglass.

For the smell: wash real good and spray or spread lemon juice or lemon juice extract in the bilge, leave open to air out for a few days. You might ask how i know this so well? well a few years ago i was fishing with some people i wont name.. and i asked one to put the case of chum in the box in the back for the run out to yellow tail. he put it in the bilge not the fish box and there was no ice.i didnt find out till i got to the Issacs with a bunch of melted chum in my bilge. Regardless the smell was cone

leave it open and keep it wet. take a hand bildge get as much as you can out. when that is done a good bildge cleaner will take care of it. a good cleaner will take the film out, but the smell usually will be there. lemon juice and opine wash works good make sure your bildge is off.

Dump some sudsy ammonia (not clear, must be sudsy) into the bilge with some water. Drive around town & drain.
The fumes from the ammonia are almost unbearable but it does a great job cleaning. Cheap too!

Put some diaper pads in there to soak up the petrochemicals. Then go to town with dawn and a scrub brush. Then leave it open for a week to gas off.
